Title says it all really.
For a bit of clarification, I mean all kinds of musicals. From DVDs like Carousel, to thoughtful on-stage productions like Company, to the camp Hairspray and the(frankly crap) Spring Awakening. I also mean all plays; Shakespeare, Calendar Girls, Checkov (I have no clue how to spell that, the guy who wrote Ivanov, Cherry Orchard, Uncle Vanya, Three Sisters).
Finally, don't start a discussion about 'actually spring awakening is good' etc posts.
By the way, I mean a general answer, which your overall preference is. You could mention exceptions, but say 'overall I like ____' at some point.
@blueprince,
as a general rule, i like plays.
deep musicals rarely work, and good music is harder to reproduce at the amateur level than good drama.
welcome to a2k.
@blueprince,
You're not really asking "which is better." You're asking "which do
you like better." The first question would be silly, anyway, as you, no doubt, know.
Even the second question, come to think of it, isn't easy to answer. In my case, I'd have to say, "It depends." How can you possibly compare
Hamlet to
The Producers? They are two entirely different genres of stagecraft. Which I would rather watch at any given moment depends on my mood at that moment. That's the only honest answer I can give.
@blueprince,

I would prefer plays, I believe, but unfortunately cannot afford the cost of them. The cost is becoming way too prohibitive.
Heck, I'm balking at the price of a ticket to a movie matinee these days.
Welcome to A2K, by the way!
@blueprince,
A good musical is uplifting, usually, a bad one just makes you want to get out of there.
A bad play often has something for you to take home, a good one will leave you thinking for weeks.
So - plays - but with some caveats.
@blueprince,
Heya!
i dont know if its just me but it sounds like you are going to copy a post and make it into say an essay for school or something
anywayz!!
i personally think musicals a better ( my name...)
I think this because in musicals with all the singing dancing and etc it just makes you smile because you get a beat in your head which sort of ( my experience) makes you feel happy . in plays YES they are great but overall i think musicals are better because some plays are just too 'dark' - they could use some songs and dancing - make the audience smile
