history re-enacted in MOOSE JAW , saskatchewan .
in moose jaw , the bronfman brothers - makers of such fine products as "SEAGRAM'S V.O." - would meet with al capone and "friends" to facilitate the movement of their destilled products into the united states in the days of prohibition .

of course , al capone died in a hail of bullets while the bronfman brothers joined the canadian business elite Laughing !

I believe that re-enactment played a bit loose with the facts, hbg. Al Capone actually died here:

letty :
i think there is a bit of misunderstanding .
the picture shows one of the BOOZERIAS where the LIQUID GOLD was stored prior to shipping to the thirsty U.S.
al capone was greeted as a well respected businessman in moose jaw and i don't think the canadian law authorities ever gave him any trouble .
after all , he was a businessman leaving CASH in canada - what he did with the booze once it left canada was none of their business .
there are even stories claiming that canadian law enforcement helped to get the stuff across the border - just helping a customer to become a SATISFIED customer , of course Shocked
there were certainly many canadian booze enterprises that got rich from shipping their stuff to the U.S. - and they are now all well-respected canadian businesses Laughing
you might enjoy the story i linked . it shows with how much respect al capone was treated in canada - they certainly saw no reason to shoot a customer bringing cash !
enjoy a seagram's in celebration of U.S. - canadian friendship (seagram's also bottles a fine gin ! ).

I did misunderstand, hbg. When you said that Al died in a hail of bullets, I thought you meant just that. Interesting bit of history.

letty :
yes , history can be interesting !
in my last job - for about 30 years - i worked for a canadian life insurance company .
the grandfather of the owner had been a scottish sea-captain who'd buy whiskey in canada and sell it to the south-african goldminers !
he made oodles of money , settled in canada and started a dynasty !
during the depresion his son would buy up shaky canadian insurance companies ... and the rest is history - as they say .
the grand-son was rather proud of his family's history !
eventually he even became "lieutenant-governor of ontario" upon his retirement - i'm sure the whiskey merchant grad-dad would have been proud of him !
hbg(no such personal history  )
