Talcum poweder - ovarian cancer

When I had an ovarian cyst a few years ago, I remember the doctor asking me if I used powder after bathing.

She said using it can cause cysts. Now I'm reading where it can cause cancer.
Including the powder on condoms.

If this is true, I don't know why this isn't better known, as ovarian cancer ususally has no, or vague symptoms until it's far advanced.

@chai2,
I dunno, I think I first read about that something like twenty years ago.

Well, not the business about condoms, that's new to me.

@ossobuco,
Taking a shower can cause cancer too. I am really almost ignoring all the warnings...apparently anything you do could possibly cause it. I don't know if it is true or not Chai...I have only been warned by my Mother a few hundred times not to breathe talcum powder. I am not sure why though.

from the link.....
Talcum powder is made from a soft mineral called hydrous magnesium silicate, which is crushed, dried and milled to produce powder which is in cosmetic products used by millions.

Some experts suggest it has chemical similarities to asbestos, which can cause a deadly form of lung cancer.

Laboratory tests show ovarian cells exposed to talcum powder divide more rapidly - a characteristic sign of cancer but until recently there was no proof that powder could travel through a woman's reproductive tract as far as the pelvis and then on to the ovaries.

@chai2,
I heard this first about two years ago. I notice that Gold Bond uses talcum powder. I keep a can for mounting tubes into bicycle tires. For the rare occasions when I use powder to prevent chaffing, I use J&J. It's corn starch and seems to work as well.

I'm pretty sure that condoms use some sort of silicone lube.
