i mean, ****, guys... y'all are scared of a stupid disc jockey and his toadie for cryin' out loud.

Me too but I have a suspicion that rosborne is right on the money. This is looking more and more like just a lot of talk.

Any one think Joseph Patrick Kennedy will accept the senate seat if asked?

In spite of the baggage that most Kennedys carry around with them they seem to continue to trudge down the road of political incorrectness and still score at the polls.

Joe will probably be asked to take the senate seat.

@Sglass,
Curious isn't it that left-wing Democrats appear to believe in hereditary rights to political power?

@georgeob1,
Trick question: No poster in this thread, left-wing Democrat or not, has said the Joseph Patrick Kennedy has a right to the senate seat, or to any other form of political power.

We can always hope.

But the reason I don't think anything will change is because the basic problems with health care have little to do with health care and a lot more to do with the interaction of legal liabilities and the insurance industry, along with the special interest money and power controlling the voting in congress. Until someone unravels the legalities, the insurance control and the corruption in the political process, health care itself will be unassailable. And right now nobody is focusing on the underlying problems and they can't even get past the partisan bickering.

If you happen to believe in a heaven or a hell (I dont), then perhaps now Mary Jo is getting the justice she was denied.

@mysteryman,
In the senate he did a lot of good work and it is for that I will remember him for. I don't know the whole story that is being rehashed again, but from what I understand, he left the scene of an accident and didn't report it quick enough to save the girl's life and that was truly horrible. He did however go through a legal process, perhaps the laws at the time were not adequate to address the situation or maybe he just got away with negligent homicide.

As for his judgement, I imagine that is between him and God, it is possible he asked for forgiveness for his part in her death.

@Sglass,
Maybe Ted Kennedy's current wife, she's a policy person and a lawyer, has a better chance than Joe. They may not appoint her, but she may run once election cycle begins.

What you said with bells on.

It IS sad that his vote could not be cast for what he had dreamed of.

It would be just as accurate to describe them as a family of trust fund babies who relentlessly sought to exploit the political prominence that JFK gave them.

The truth is a synthesis of the two.

Would it be correct to say that only a capitalistic society allowed for the financial achievement of Joseph Kennedy, so his sons could dedicate their lives to public service? In other words, in socialist utopias, the wealth is spread around so well, no one family may have the luxury to be dedicated to public service like the Kennedys, since families are dedicated to surviving (based on the social contract of socialism).

Yeah, I don't thin anyone here is talking about entitlement or the right of lineage. I think that it's just one of those mental associations that when a politician dies and a replacement is voted in, good candidates are ones that closely embody the spirit or views of the deceased. In the case of making family suggestions, it's not unreasonable to think that family members will closely share politics.

The people of MA voted for Edward Kennedy, so chances are the Dems should put forth a candidate most like him. It's not the only strategy, but it's not unreasonable.

Didnt a large part of his money come from bootlegging during prohibition?
Yes, he made money legally, but he also made money illegally.

I dont think we should celebrate that.

@revel,
He was drinking (allegedly), ran off a bridge, flipped his car, and left a young woman to drown.
He didnt report the accident for 8 hours, AFTER talking to his lawyer and his political staff.

He claimed he made a swim that an olympic class swimmer cant make, and went home.

I'm sorry, he is a murderer, and the fact that he was only convicted of leaving the scene shows that his family name saved him, IMO.

All the good he has done since then does NOT absolve him of that crime, nor does it clear his name.

@mysteryman,
there are those that denigrated the passing of Ron Reagan just as there are those that will denigrate the passing of Ted Kennedy. I say shame on them for they were patriots beyond campare and cared deeply for the people and the nation. I am sorry Ted was flawed (unlike you and me) .
