What Actually Happened in Fatah’s Elections?

The U.S. government has been meddling in the Palestinian internal affairs since at least 2003. It’s effort is to transform the Palestinian national movement for liberation and independence into a more compliant or quisling government, willing to accede to Israel’s political and security demands. However, Hamas’s victory over Fatah in the 2006 Palestinian election threw a spanner in the works. Ever since, Washington has been intent on undoing those results and dislodiging Hamas from Gaza using whatever scandalous and devious means it will take. Central to this effort is to reinvent Fatah and present it as a viable political alternative to Hamas. However, as a result of its recently held Congress, Fatah itself might begin to unravel.
