Animals in the wild have to continually contend with the expansion of human civilization.
Certain wild animals have learned to coexist and even thrive in urban settings, pigeons and
raccoons being obvious examples.

Well, subway goers in Moscow are becoming familiar with stray dogs. These dogs have become
accustomed to using the subway system as a means to travel across Moscow, even managing
to catch a nap along the way. The dogs hop on in the morning and travel to the city center
where they spend the day begging for scraps. At the end of the day they get back on the
subway and travel to the suburbs where they sleep in relative safety.

The dogs have become experts at judging the length of time they need to stay on the train,
and seem to work together to ensure that they exit the subway at the right stop.

@Region Philbis,
Back to this, Region - it is amazing to me, with maybe a little bit of 'I'm not completely surprised'.

This made my day, the dogginess, the smarts, the charm, and likely not shown, the troubles.

MY NEW BABY! Smile
http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag107/poodlepassion/5a062b11-3b30-4bf7-8565-601bd5ecaf5c_zps00cb8a00.jpg

He's 3 months old and weighs a drop over 4lbs. He's a chocolate toy poodle, with a coat that's a richer and darker brown than it looks in the photo. I don't think the photo (which was taken by the breeder when he was about 2 months old) really does him justice--he's even cuter. And I think he looks a little mortified about being decked out in beads and a big bow--it's not really macho enough for this spunky little guy. He'll probably be a fairly large toy poodle, maybe even a small mini, when fully grown.

He doesn't have a name yet--I've only had him since Sunday evening. But I'm sure he must already think his name is Sweetie because he's heard me call him that so often. I'm holding off on a proper name until I think of one that really seems to suit him (beside Sweetie Smile). So far, Moxie and Charlie (as in Charlie Brown, and good time Charlie) appeal to me, and he does have a lot of moxie--spirit, heart, courage.

He is absolutely adorable. He is playful, alert, intelligent, curious, very affectionate, and a bundle of energy--everything a great 3 month old puppy should be. As soon as I can find my camera (I know I left it in some logical place Rolling Eyes), I'll be taking more pictures of him.

I am already madly in love with him. Smile

@firefly,
Because the dog is a (?) French poodle (male), why not call him chien?

@firefly,
Oh bless him, he's adorable! He so looks like a Charlie Brown - really lovely. No wonder you're already besotted with him. I guess there are going to be a lot of photographs taken of the little fellow - with a face like that who could resist him!

@vonny,
Thumbs up, vonny, but no way did a short legged Corgi get into that wheelbarrow by itself.

Couldn't get into it by himself, Roger? What on earth do you mean - he pushed it there, THEN levitated into it! Clever dogs these Corgis.

@Region Philbis,
The dogs using the Moscow subway don't really surprise me--I'm always amazed, and impressed, by the intelligence of dogs, and their ability to cope.
I'm just sorry that those dogs have to live like that.

Thanks everyone, for the puppy name suggestions. I'm trying all of them--except for "chien". Ragman, you really want me to call him "dog"?

For a while today I also called the puppy Hershey, because he kept giving me delicious kisses. But, I don't know about candy names. I'm torn between "personality" names and human names--I've had previous dogs (all females) with both types of names. It did take me a week or two before I finally settled on the names for those dogs. When it really feels right to me, I'll know I've hit on the right name for this little guy. It also has to be a name that I'll like saying, since I hope I'll be saying it for a very long time.

@firefly,
Does he have a Kennel Club name - or a name on his pedigree? Great fun choosing a name - I wish you luck. As you say, it will, hopefully, be for a very long time, so you need to get it right.
