@ossobuco,
I crate my dogs at night. My dogs have a doghouse outside but at night I bring them in. In Florida this time of the year it’s too cold outside at night and during the summer it’s too hot for them to be outside.

They do have free reign of the house when their inside but when we go to bed I crate them. A friend of mine thought it was cruel to crate them but they really don’t mind. They know when its time for bed and all we have to say is in your bed and they both go in the crates. The crates are very large and I keep them in the back room. I really don’t think its cruel, I would never do anything I thought was cruel.

@jcboy,
Pacco was fond of his crate - which was a good thing, because I kept him in a crate in the car, nicely cushioned. Kept him in it in the house once a month for three hours, when we had our gallery openings, and kept it open in the bedroom, where it was his own little den.

@ossobuco,
An update on the little dog we found last week -- her name is Biscuit and she's back home with her family. Mr.Irish put up a few posters on lamp posts throughout the neighborhood. We didn't agree on doing this, but compromised in that he would only post 'Found Dog', her photo and our phone number. He did that on Saturday, then yesterday we got a phone call. BUT, the people who called said they didn't see the poster, but had called our HOA to ask if a lost dog had been reported and that's how they got our number.

We have no doubt it's their dog (their little girl's dog, actually) and they seemed relieved to have found her. It's not their first adventure with her ... the last time they found her at a shelter. We almost suggested they have her microchipped, but didn't want to appear intrusive. They didn't mention why she wasn't wearing her collar or tags or how she got out...just that she's a runner and it's happened before. They said they put up flyers, but we never saw any. I'm happy she's back with her family, but we'll miss her.

@jcboy,
Many dogs find crates to be reassuring--security from a sometimes bewildering world. Our two dogs are both rescue dogs. The boy dog, who is older, was taken from a man who was beating him. He was a very skittish, frightened dog when he was a puppy (he's outgrown it now--if anything, he makes us worry because he's too bold). Getting in the crate was security for him, nothing scarey could get him when he was in the crate.

The little girl dog (horrible case of neglect, and possible abuse) likes her "caves." She likes to crawl into any small space which is covered above and on three sides. She does this inside and out. We've never done that with a crate, but when we take them to the groomer, she puts both dogs in a crate together, and they calm down after that.

@Setanta,
We have a crate for Jack similar to Morgan's. He'll go in on command or sometimes voluntarily and he's fine as long as we don't close the door. If we close the door he barks up a storm. Quirky.

So Huffington Post has this slide series of people's dogs looking out windows. I'm a fool for these kind of photos since one of my favorite things is to see a dog sitting in a car checking the world out there (preferably safely, perhaps with one of those halter things), or a dog looking out a house window.

Anyway, I haven't made it through all two hundred something photos yet, but saw this one and decided to put out a cute-alert -

@Setanta,
I agree, I've always crated mine, I leave the door open on the crate and when she's ready for bed she goes in by herself, Ieave the door open for her but she will remain there until morning.

We found a little puppy this morning roaming the neighborhood and running in the streets. He doesn’t have a collar. We are making up fliers and will be placing them around the neighborhood to try and find his owner. Antonio wants to keep him but somebody is probably missing this little guy.

@firefly,
He’s really cute! And chubby so someone was taking good care of him. My dog Frankie loves him, can’t say the same for Mac, she wanted to bite his head off.

Antonio has him in his room, he does know somebody must be looking for him but he sure would like to keep him.

@tsarstepan,
Thanks he is a cutie! some poor family must be frantic looking for him, although we haven't seen anyone around the neighborhood looking for the little guy.
