The boys... 1/2 Great Dane/American Bulldog and the Redbone Coonhounds. They are very rare in Canada.

Shopaholic Louise Harris estimates she has spent £100,000 on her three Yorkshire terriers in six years. Louise, 31, from Chelmsford, Essex, loves nothing more than spoiling Lola, Lulu and Larry. The pampered pooches have their own £2,000 four-poster bed and £2,500 bespoke jewellery complete with rubies, emeralds and sapphires. She also commissioned an oil painting of them for £5,000. Louise says she spent £4,000 on luxury Christmas presents for them last year. Louise, who runs a luxury pet store called Diva Dogs, will feature on a Sky One TV programme called A Different Breed.

So, I checked what happened about Sutter today.. and it turns out that yesterday he was named First Dog in the Jerry Brown governorship..

Well, egads, it's about time!

I put this in the cat room too, but only fair that it appears in the dog house as well. Why do dogs and cats fight all the time?

@hingehead,
Just curious... did you notice who fell asleep on the couch first then the other guy joined in? Or did they fall asleep together at the same time?

@tsarstepan,
Both would have fallen asleep at the same time, but not sure who would have been on the couch first. These two are best buds - will eventually put up some video of the way they play together. Occasionally the cat will feed the dog, by tossing some food from his stand onto the floor.

The Maine Coon also likes rubbing against the big dogs legs (tickling big dogs nose with his tail) and puts up with licks from both of them. Just a groovy cat. The other cat is a bit more stand offish but the dogs are just as respectful - I have a photo on A2K somewhere where he and our old maltese are so intertwined in sleep you can't tell where one ends and the other one starts.

A man was spotted holding the paw of his dog as the pair crossed a busy road in Nanning, capital of southern China's Guangxi Province. As they approached the road the dog was walking on all fours but when its owner paused at the curb it stood up on its back legs and offered its paw.

@Irishk,
Very cute, as they go hand in hand..

Meantime, Sutter finds himself in the news again -

@ossobuco,
I saw a cute article written by Sutter last week. Here's just a snippet...

Quote:
If you ask me, Bo Obama has yet to grow into the position. Think Diana, Princess of Wales, Bo. You want to be the people's pooch.

Here's a trick that works for this old dog. Lie on your back for 20 minutes a day. Show the joy.

@Irishk,
I missed that one (as you know, irish, I read the chronicle), though not always Saunders' columns. More the Day in Pictures photos and the food section.. and sometimes Jon Carroll's columns.

I'm waiting for some quick photographer to capture Sutter on his back, legs more or less straight up and all four of them wagging in the air, a typical corgi maneuver. Hard for a photographer, though, what with most photographers laughing themselves silly, focus is hard to maintain.

Partly I enjoy all this not just for a dog that reminds me of my late Pacco, and is enough different for me to get a great kick out of for himself, but that back in the mid nineties and the early 2000's I had some art shows in Sacto (as they say there) and friends who worked in the capitol. My father lived there as a child in the early 1900's - I've even visited that house though there was no one home at that hour on that day, and some close friends live a few blocks from the capitol now. So, a bunch of sentiment is flying when I post re dog Sutter.

Ummm, that gives me an idea, I'll have to ask the friends to say hi to Sutter for me, if the occasion arises. (A quiet nod, simple cartoon cloud murmuring hi from the Pacc will do.)

@hingehead,
So do any of the rest of you soften at the sight of grayed dog muzzles?
I know it's the way of it, but it is always a dart to my heart.

@ossobuco,
Sometimes, but I definitely softened more at Ceili's dogs than the irish setter.
