Yes, pit bulls.
The dog licking my face is Heaven. She was used as bait in a fight when she was a wee puppy. She was badly injured and thrown in a dumpster. A sanitation worker found her and brought her to the ASPCA. The woman in the picture, Joan, took her in, nursed her back to health, and made a sweet, loving, gentle dog out of her. The dog waiting her turn to lick my face is Holly. Another rescue. Joan fostered a litter of abandoned puppies. Heaven was their surrogate mother. Joan kept Holly. Holly surpasses sweet. Neither Heaven nor Holly is a therapy dog. They're just pets.
These dogs visit me every Friday (three weeks so far). Psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists could not do for me what these canines do. I'm calm, lighter, peaceful, and happy in their presence. I even love it when they're just lying on the floor resting.
Next week I'm gonna try to take them for a walk!!
