Stop acting like you know the facts. You are blindly supporting the person who instigated the police action.

No, I'm not - and my very first post on this subject clearly stated that I believe the truth lies somewhere in the middle of the two accounts.

If Gates kept his mouth shut and followed instructions, this would be a non event.

If Crowley had performed his job correctly and left the scene after determining that no crime had been committed, this would be a non-event.

I don't disagree with that.

Now, let us hear you state that you believe that Crowley acted improperly in some fashion during this event; yaknow, in the interests of you showing that you are not, like pretty much every other Conservative here, blindly supporting the peace officer - even though said officer failed to perform his duty correctly.

I assert once again that you have no idea whatsoever what the actual laws which govern this situation are, and are instead speaking from a position of ignorance.

The Police Captain stated clearly that Sgt Crowley followed proper procedures.

Case closed.

See above.

Feel free to review the video I posted earlier for additional commentary from Sgt Crowleys fellow officers.

Sorry, but I could care less what the opinion of the police captain is; he is no less likely to lie to protect a fellow officer than anyone else.

You have no clue what the laws are, do you?

Who cares what his fellow officers say? They are not exactly what you would call neutral witnesses.

What a weak Appeal to Authority from you. Why don't you just admit that you don't know what the laws are, so you have no clue whether or not the officer followed the law? This display of ignorance you've chosen to put forward instead is not sufficient.

ABC reports that Colin Powell has appeared from the mists with what is is a light handed criticism for Professor Gates overreacting to what he perceived as racial profiling. Powell stated that he has been racially profiled many times and was annoyed, but did not react.

I love the ABC line that Thursday's meeting will be a CASE of beer diplomacy.
A case of beer will definitely melt residual resentments and the gentlemen will be slapping one another on the back and laughing their butts off.

@Sglass,
I more fear exacerbation of fulsome stances.

In a quieter situation, these three guys could have some good talk. In this circumstance, I dunno.

There is no meaningful accusation by either party that Gates refused to show ID. The police report states that 'Gates initially refused, demanding that I show him identification.' That isn't refusing to show your ID to a cop, it's refusing to show your ID to a random person who has shown up at your door. Nevertheless, Gates did produce his ID in a timely fashion, there is no disagreement about this.

Do you agree that MA state law requires a cop to present identification when requested, Brandon? And that the cop failed to do so?

I don't know. I'll defer to your research, but it's clear that Gates becames very angry and somewhat insulting.

@Brandon9000,
The Intel on gates is that when he wants to he can calm any room or any person, but that he has a tendency to be a SOB otherwise.

He repaired to Martha's Vineyard (or was it the Hampton's??) for R&R after ofter the Crawley affair, I expect him to be in top form at the beer fest.

@hawkeye10,
I see/agree with what I take of Gate's point of view but I'm not sure his first premise was right, that this was racial, that his (apparent) rant was appropriate.

I also see Crowley's behavior as a mess.

I hate to see them meet as folks with hardened defences.. but that is to be expected.

especially since we know that Obama is going to have to fake it. There are a lot of things that we don't know about him, but we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is not a beer drinking guys-guy. You'd normally be more likely to find him drinking white zin with the ladies....

@hawkeye10,
Honey, he's past white zin, give us a decades' old break, - and even some of us who prefer wine do like a beer once in a while.

So, people who have even the smallest clue about wine have to sit with the ladies?

This seems an aggressive gut slut wine list.

@ossobuco,
I was making a point, being somewhat provocative as I am want to do.....I am a foodie, I drink a good bit of wine, sometimes very good wine, I don't have a problem with wine drinkers.

You have been on my case a lot lately, anything I can do for you???

Somebody has to be on your case, which I consider a problem.

I do engage with you once in a while, when you aren't being protoflagrante.

@ossobuco,
again with the 20 buck words....are you trying to show off???

A little consistency from you would be nice, half the time you say that you have not made up your mind about me, then the other half you are throwing a **** fit.....it is ...confusing.

I Am OK, eventually you will figure it out....everyone in my real life does.

@hawkeye10,
Twenty buck words, which were those? I've probably known about wine longer than you.

I hate your take on women, not to mention women in marriage. I plan to just shut up, but you are bright, which is distracting. I probably will shut up. Repartee is amusing, but not fruitful, no there, there.

@ossobuco,
the only thing that you would have cause to bitch about is if I were not honest...but I am. The women in my life choose to be with me, I give them something that they want/need, and they agree to the terms ( as I agree to theirs). Until and unless I show up at your door demanding that you agree to my terms you have no business being in my business giving me ****.

Women should be free to choose, so long as they choose what you think that they should choose....I know your type well. I know nitwit Bill's type well too, guys who can't stand how much they want to experience women in the raw passionate way that I do, and NEED to hate on all the guys who have what they want but don't have, can't get.

I don't care how honest you are, I take you at face value.

Until and unless I show up at your door demanding that you agree to my terms you have no business being in my business giving me ****.
But you spue your pov across the board - I don't like that.

I know your type well.
No, you don't.

I know nitwit..
I am not Bill.
