This is really cool. Yesterday afternoon as I walked out of the office, I turned and looked - a tall ship was just "parking" near me!

I work right on the waterfront and I am currently surrounded by tall ships. Granted I have to get up and walk a bit to one side or the other of the building, to view out the windows - but within reaching distance (if I could reach out the window) I could a tall ship or three!

Here is a picture of the one I saw coming in yesterday!

That is cool.

I saw a tall truck (a Verizon cherry-picker) here in Chelmsford.
Not quite the same thing.

@Linkat,
Are the tall ships coming back to Boston? How big a fleet? For how long a stay? I must get home for a visit if that's so.

@Linkat,
Ah, I miss that office.

Walked around the waterfront (not your area, this was closer to the Aquarium) yesterday and we saw one. Smile

@Merry Andrew,
They will be here from today until the 13th. I know there is over 30 supposed to be here - but most are not open to the public, but you can see them without boarding.

Directly where I work there is 3 - Concordia, Libertad and Kruzenshtern and next pier over there is another 4. It is so cool to see these huge ships right from your office windows.

@jespah,
Yes, although this isn't necessarily the prettiest area of Boston - when stuff like this come in - it is awesome.

@Linkat,
As of this morning, about 10 sailing ships/boats were in the marked areas:

Wow.
And I'm gonna miss this visit this time.
Last time these beauties were in port at Boston I was down at the waterfront nearly every day. Seaglass was a part-time volunteer on one of the smaller exhibit ships as I recall. What year was that?

Maybe I'll head over this weekend. I love seeing these beautiful ships. They came in in small clusters instead of coming in in 'parade' formation. They're spread out around the city. Both of those factors are because of crowd control, budget considerations and post-9/11 paranoia.

Me and some of my family boarded the Amerigo Vespuci. I think that was 2000, M.A.

So cool - this morning I went to the windows (now mind you these windows are those very tall type - fall to ceiling kind). I was watching the Russian ship and the sailors. A bunch of the sailors were on the masts high above and rolling and tightening up the sails - it was so cool to watch. One nice looking guy had his shirt off and was working on the deck that wasn't bad to watch either. Another nodded to me and motioned for me to come on aboard. I would have loved to - but knew the security was tight - and there was no way to get through as public viewing isn't until later.

Hubby is hoping to bring the kids tomorrow and we will meet up to tour some of these beautiful ships.

On an aside - Mame would be happy to know that the Urganuy (sp?) ship is on one side of my building - I have to make sure I visit that ship!

@Region Philbis,
Funny I was thinking about this thread I had started as there is the tall ship here that you gave the link - I am not surrounded, but at least have one ship on one side of me.

Here is the notice we got from work.
Beginning tomorrow Wednesday, June 16th the Spanish ship Juan Sebastian De Delcano will be docked at the Seaport WTC city side at the rear of the building. Please be advised that on Friday, June 18th at noon the ship will fire off a 19 gun volley to welcome the Spanish ambassador as a customary welcome. Public viewing hours are below:
Wednesday, June 16th
3:30-8:00pm

Thursday, June 17th
10:00am-1:00pm

Friday, June 18th
No Public Viewing Hours

Saturday, June 19th
10:00am-1:00pm
2:00-6:30pm

Sunday, June 20th
11:00am-1:00pm
2:00-6:30pm

Monday, June 21st
10:00am-1:00pm

not sure if I will make any of the viewing times - with end of year school activities and softball playoffs - I'll see if I can squeeze it in.
