@dyslexia,
Aside from general encouragement, I can offer only one data point:

When my mother had her femoral neck fracture, her bones too were stapled together -- well, actually they were screwed together. And her screws, too, had to be cut out of her thigh after their removal from the bones. By her account, the surgery to remove the screws was non-trivial, but minor compared to the first surgery. After the first surgery, her muscles needed about two weeks to work pain-free again. After the second, they needed about three days.

Granted -- every person is different, and an artificial hip is different from a femoral neck fracture. Still, this should give you an approximate sense of proportion.

went into the clinic today, she said "I didn't believe you when you called yesterday about removing the surgical staples, no one would tolerate 27 staples in an incision that long, let me see your hip" she then went and got her assistant (nurse) and brought back into the room a pair of wire cutters and a pair of needle-nose pliers. 20 minutes later I put my pants on and walked out to the car. No big deal.

@dyslexia,
All you had to do was to call me and I would have driven you to the doctor to have the staples removed.

@dyslexia,
The PC is thinking ahead to possible complications ( infection etc. ) and is pushing the problem off to a highly paid SPECIALIST, who will be paid a nice fee for his/her work.

It's always a little scary. Hopefully the ordeal will not be as bad as it may seem at the moment.
