My hip replacement surgery was back in January, the surgical site was stapled closed. For one reason or another (my lack of mobility/Lady Diane's illness) I still have my hip stapled together.
As I have a routine appointment with my primary medico tomorrow, I called this morning to ask if she could remove the staples during my office visit. Her nurse just phoned me and stated that "because it's been over 4 months since the surgery, the staples are surely embedded and will need to be cut out of my hip by a surgeon. I have no idea what to expect, but it's kinda scary.

@dyslexia,
I would ask for another opinion.
I have never heard of staples having to be taken out by another surgeon.

When I had my shoulder surgery, the staples were removed by the Dr in his office.
After I had them in for 3 months.

@dyslexia,
actually...I've heard staples are a great source of iron and zinc...best just leave them in...

It's always a little scary. Hopefully the ordeal will not be as bad as it may seem at the moment.

@dyslexia,
Not staples, but I had metal pins embedded through the top of my feet (to push and hold broken bones back in place). After some months in casts, the pins were then removed with frickken pliers or something, with a topical, not general, anesthesia. Yank, twist and pull.

A surgeon did it.

Short and sharp.

Compared to the rest of it, soon forgotten. Really.

yeah I hear that, it's mostly that I was thinking my primary care could just do it at an office visit and now it seems turning into an "ordeal" with the surgeon. Not expecting this.

No surgery is "simple," in my view. Best of luck, dys.

@dyslexia,
It won't be an ordeal just cause it's been referred to a surgeon...there's just some extra precaution being taken...to your advantage...easy peasy Wishbone

What Mysteryman said. I'd get a second opinion.

hope that they can do it tomorrow and there isn't a problem Dys. Ditto bugger if there's a surgery involved.

@dyslexia,
They didn't use the dissolving stapes?

Seriously. Better that the surgeon check them than your doc yanking them out with needle nose pliers.

Good luck.

I could come over with a bottle of tequilla and some needle nose pliers.
