Y DO PEOPLE TEXT INSTEAD OF CALL?

@OmSigDAVID,
No, but I often email instead of calling. There's just a lot of people who don't check their messages. Anyway, who knows what a phone call is interrupting? Email interrupts nothing.

Email interrupts nothing.

A few years ago, someone showed up unexpectedly
at an elite restaurant at which we had about 25 Mensans
with no room at the table for him. It became troublesome.
We thaut (thawt?) that we coud squeeze him in; we were rong.
He claimed that he 'd sent me a reservation by email.
He probably did.
I never found it among all my email.

I'll text if I'm giving someone an address, a phone number, brief directions, or some other information that the person might want to have written down so they can refer to it again. I've got a QWERTY phone so texting is not terribly difficult or inconvenient.

Yeah; I can see where texting an address can be a good idea.

The police have executed search warrants at rong addresses
and torn the rong places apart; tore them down and shot the rong homeowners.

I'd actually be more nervous about that happening if I were receiving that texted information - what if someone made a typo? If you speak to someone it gives them the opportunity to double check and reiterate what exactly they mean.

I usually text someone if I can't get through on their phone for some reason, and then I text -:
pls ansr ur phone- i need 2 speak to u.
That way, if they're in a meeting or something, don't have credit or are not within network, I'll at least know that they'll eventually get the message to call when they can, or to answer their phone the next time I try to call them (if they dont have credit) so I can speak to them.

Kids do it because it's cheaper than a phone call-sometimes texts are unlimited and calls aren't.

True, but it also means you have to remember that they said "2765 Main Street" rather than "2675 Main Street." In situations like that, I prefer to have something written down in order to keep the numbers straight.

@Shapeless,
Shapeless, I meant in David's scenario- when lives might be at risk.
I think your use of texting makes a lot of sense.
I would hope the police would use a combination of written and spoken information and confirmation before using deadly force.

A phone call has a 50/50 chance of being unanswered so "Please leave a message" . A text will get through to its intended, and its something that can be done while doing something else.
I try not to phonetic text cause it makes you look retarded. Takes a bit longer but its worth it.

Any other questions? just text me.

@farmerman,
Texting involves no chit chat. I hate chit chat.

As I remember, the situations that actually happened
were that the search warrants had rong addresses written on them
or police simply read 123 East Main St. for 123 West Main St.
Thay broke in with battering rams, and wearing ski masks.
The home owner responded defending his home and family.
Police shot him in the head, before discovering their error.
This has happened more than once; usually drug raids.

That 's only because your brain was abused at an early age,
establishing bad patterns of recognition.

@OmSigDAVID,
I ALWAYS use phonetic text - and no punctuation. I think it's fun- I allow myself to get really cre8ive with it 2.

@OmSigDAVID,
There is a very simple difference (that others here have alluded to) between synchronous and asynchronous communication. Each has very simple and clear advantages.

Synchronous communication like chat and phone calls are better for times where both individuals are available and where the communication requires multiple responses to the other person.

Asynchronous communication like email or text messaging are better for times where one of the individuals might not be available and where a back and forth might not be as important.

I don't use text messaging much, because the medium is a ripoff (they charge thousands of times what they could charge and still make a profit) and very limiting (email doesn't restrict you to 140 characters) but I see clear advantages in asynchronous communication (like able2know, for example).

yup

To either of u:
what good comes from writing "ph" instead of "f" ?

How r we better off,
if we add the letters "UGH" to the word tho ?

If u r not part of the solution,
u r part of the problem of poisoning the minds
of children yet unborn ( in due time ).

Break the chain of abuse.
