@georgeob1,
Yes, I agree, Lale Anderson's voice was far superior to Marlene Dietrich's,
and the German version of "Lili Marlene" was quite meaningful to lots of
Germans. My mother (a child during WWII) still gets goose bumps when hearing it. "Where have all the flowers gone"...is another one of Lale Anderson's songs that became famous when Marlene Dietrich picked it up.

Here is Lale Anderson in 1968 still singing "Lili Marlene" -

@dyslexia,
I was at the Vivace too, that night, but no one recognized me... I was wearing a flu mask.

I was able to overhear both conversations.
George and Dyslexia's was loopy-sided, and Diane's was the only reasonable voice there -as any sensible person would expect.
Roger was telling Osso about his 65th birthday and the meaning of life. Osso's answers were full of meanders, with a quote in Italian here and there.
Man, was I lucky they didn't recognize me!

@ossobuco,
Well, Roger and I are both "hard of hearing". Something of a push re who is in worse **** on this matter.
I know much more about italian food than Roger does. Don't get me going, you know what can result from such a question.
Roger, on the other hand, has a handle on truncated sardonic sentences.

More in next post.

@ossobuco,
Next post..

Well, I can picture it. I've seen the photos from a2kers meeting in San Francisco.
I figure expansive talk happened or something would be very wrong, and apparently it wasn't.

Dys ordered shrimp again ...

Diane had to put up with the brights (that's my take, I've spent years with theater folk).

So, what's the deal, fb, we have to get to your city to meet you? (I figure that's true, hoping not.)

Ah! We could have finished the meal, then. We thought someone was pulling a stick-up.

Calamity,

Here's the original version. I like it best.

It is a lovely day here. The patio doors are open letting in the bright sun & blue sky. I've been on some conference calls - with the 'mute' button pushed, and, with mind wandering, getting drunk on some old musical favorites on youtube.

Francis,
Here, for you a familiar, but beautiful, lyric piece from decades ago.

Ah "La Mer" such a beautiful song where one wants to sit by the Seine river in Paris at sunset and listen to this fine tune.

It's a gorgeous day in southern California too, although so close to "la mer", the sun came out only an hour ago.

@CalamityJane,
Aha. Wandel told me that you had gone to Europe for a few weeks, now I know why!

Georgeob, the song is the same, but the video should NOT be at Deerfield Beach. I've been there. This video is better, buddy.

Somewhere, my lover stands on Tommy Sands watching for me... Smile

@panzade,
Can't beat Bobby's Le Mer, panz, but Kevin Spacey was almost as good he was. Did you see that movie?

and here's Tommy Sands. Had no idea that he was married to Nancy Sinatra.

Incidentally, buddy, Bobby borrowed that one from Charles.
