I've got an old Print By Carlotta Edwards. On the rear it's labelled "Les Sylphides Valse". I can't seem to find out much about it.

@1nspectagadget,
Carlotta Edwards is a fairly well known artist from the 19thc. Her work was (is?) heavily repoduced. Many little girls had an Edwards ballet print on their bedroom wall growing up. If you said you had an oil painting I would say you have something of great value, but her prints are easily found and tend not to go for much money.

I assume this is it. They are still cranking them out to this day:

@Green Witch,
It is old, you can tell by the framers label. it's similar to your picture but no church in the background and the ballerinas are in more of a circle.

@1nspectagadget,
Your print could easily be from the turn of the century. Les Sylphides Valse is the name of a famous 19thc ballet and Edwards probably painted scenes from it many times. Even an old print by Edwards will not have great value. She was very commercial. If the frame is old and in very good condition it is probably worth more than the print.

@1nspectagadget,
You need to copy the image from the location that your photo is docked and insert the http between the two IMG brackets, Here's a mock up with a little change so the image will not show and you will just see the code. :

@1nspectagadget,
I'm afraid you not going to be able to retire on it. Market value is about $50. For some reason there are a number of similar Edwards' prints being sold on a New Zealand auction site called Trade Me. I don't see much in the way of sales and prices seem to start at about $15. I didn't see any on Ebay. These were mass produced items sold to the middle class to make their homes looked cultured. Tastes have changed and I think her work is now considered a little kitschy. At least you are an experienced picture up-loader now.

Are we talking about the same Carlotta Edwards? I have an oil painting called 'Scheherezade', based on the Arabian Nights stories.

The previous owner of the painting claimed that Carlotta Edwards was a young Russian woman brought by her Welsh husband Norman Edwards to England in World War I, and that she died in 1977.

She was supposed to have painted ballet scenes for Medici Galleries printing cards, so this seems to be more than a coincidence with your 'Carlotta Edwards ballet art'.

The painting itself is dated 1971, so I'm mystified by the claim that she was a 'British, 19th C' artist in http://www.artinfo.com/artists/profile/56188/carlotta-edwards/

Does anyone have more information?

Lorenzo you are correct. Carlotta was born in the 19thc (late 1880s I believe), but she was really a 20thc artist. I added to your confusion by mistyping 19th instead of 20th. I think she identified with British culture more than Russian and described herself as a British citizen in the few sources I know of.

Anyone wanting dollar values has to pay for a private appraisal where a knowledgeable person can see the work and look up auction and private dealer sales. Local museums, auction houses and antique stores usually have a referral list of appraisers.
