Disaster ! ! !

The stars have abandoned us ! ! !

Hey gang, let's work up some hysteria which is not attended by any political bigotry. There has to be something (or many things) about which we can panic which are common to us all.

I'll start . . .

Can't you see it ? ! ? ! ? Natural calamities abound! Things are going to hell in a hand car all around us. Victoria is burning, Ontario is freezing, Florida is boring ! ! ! Weather is everywhere around us, and no let up in sight!

Surely you can see, the end of days . . .

@Setanta,
They're rioting in Africa
They're starving in Spain
There's hurricanes in Florida
and Texas needs rain.

The whole world is festering with unhappy souls.
The French hate the Germans,
The Germans hate the Poles.
Italians hate Yugoslavs.
South Africans hate the Dutch
and I don't like anybody very much!

But we can be tranquil and thankful and proud
for man's been endowed with a mushroom shaped cloud.
And we know for certain that some lovely day
someone will set the spark off
and we will all be blown away!

They're rioting in Africa
There's strife in Iran.
What nature doesn't do to us
will be done by our fellow man.

Not only that, but the sea coasts are suspiciously wet and people in the deserts have been obliged to frequently moisturize . . . scoff if you will, the signs are plain to those who have eyes to see ! ! !

@Setanta,
I am terrified by global warming and water wars and mass starvation and refugees and loss of species and I just heard the sea is absorbing CO2 and getting more acidic and threatening to kill stuff in the ocean not to mention the plastic bags...

Hops off gibbering...

When I was singing this in fourth grade I so didn't get the "man's been endowed with a mushroom-shaped... cloud" part.

I have been reading that octopi have taken to rioting, wreaking general havoc, and being bad boys in general.

@edgarblythe,
Surely a sign of the apocalypse.

I've been feeling very fond of octopi since I started reading this stuff though. (Just love the one who stuffed the bad seafood down the drain while maintaining eye contact with the zookeeper person. "This... will... not... do. Am I clear?")

Well, I've chosen "Calamity" wisely, and that darn song "It never rains in southern California" is haunting us now Evil or Very Mad
