One cup of coffee to shuffle through the morning newspaper. Wink 75,000 is the current estimate of lost lives from the earthquake/tsunami.

Yikes, c.i., it is worse than can be imagined.

P.S. Will you be around in the middle of January. I will be in Palo Alto for a weekend and plan to visit the Oakland Muesuem's new exhibit. Which means I will have to pass right through San Jose but I can stop and say hey if you are there.

JD, I'll be leaving for South America on January 12 for 18 days. Will be spending 3 days in Buenos Aires, before flying down to Ushuaia to catch a boat for a cruise to Antarctica. Be back on January 31.

OK it seems we are always missing each other. I will not be up north until the end of the month. Did you hear about the rain and flooding here in good old SD? What a mess.

Yeah, saw some reports on tv where cars were driving through the water about window deep. Looked like submarines.

ok, then I'll be good and have healthy stuff. My usual, Kashi Go-Lean, 1% milk, low sodium V8.

Might as well start melting off those cookies right away.

oh, that's my annual post Christmas cookies recovery which occurs every January and February. I just posted my first entry in the virtural diet forum explaining my annual 10 lb gain during the holidays and subsequent loss starting Jan 1. I don't really get started for another week or so because of all the leftover treats hanging around the house but I start talking about it on the first.

breakfast ran a little late this morning (remember that i had to keep the door open to let the new year in at midnight). as usual we started with a bowl of cereal, fresh fruit and yoghurt. having established that there was nothing wrong with our appetite, we followed up with a boiled egg (a must for new year's day !), whole-wheat bun, pumpernickel bread, cheese and a bit of smoked ham; all washed down with KONA coffee (to remember our vacation). off we went for a nice walk along lake ontario (subshine !!!), to work up a bit of an appetite for lunch. hbg
