I find the whole idea of faiths and the government getting in bed together for pretty much any purpose to be pretty scary. The Pope isn't an elected official. Neither is my rabbi. I understand the appeal of working with what may seem to be a ready-made voting bloc but there just seems to be too much other baggage tied into this.
