Oh, I forgot Omar Sharif. Dr. Zhivago was about the Bolshevik Revolution.

Raggedyaggie is right. My idea was "marxist revolutionaries", with Burton playins Trotsky in "The Assasination of Trotsky", Shariff playing Ché Guevara, (but the Dr. Zhivago link was great!), F. Murray Abraham (and Duvall) as Stalin and Geoffrey Rush, who plays Trotsky, in "Frida".

Your turn, raggedyaggie.

Here's my best guess:

They all played musicians:
Woody Allen - Wild Man Blues (playing himself...)
Charlie Chaplin - Vagabond
Robert DeNiro - New York, New York
Richard Gere - The Cotton Club

hmmm. Fbaezer, would you be thinking of Joaquin Phoenix instead of River Phoenix. I'm thinking of Emperors of Rome.
Harrison - Cleopatra, Julius Caesar
Gavin - Spartacus - Julius Caesar
DeLuis - History of the World Part I - Nero
Joaquin Phoenix - Gladiator - Emperor Commodus

Gavin, Deluise and Harrison all played Roman emperors but can't match Phoenix! This one is devious.
