Sorry, work interrupted.
Ms. Hepburn lived/lives? near the theatre in Connecticut where I was working in 1982. I was on my way to run work-related errands one afternoon, and realized that if I didn't hurry, I'd get stuck next to the theatre in the post-matinee mob. Once the crowd started emerging, I'd be unable to get out of town for at least half an hour. So I was driving MUCH too fast down Main Street past the theatre, and a tall woman came bounding down the steps and across the street. I slammed on the brakes. She never even looked at me! It was Katharine Hepburn. She had left during curtain calls to avoid the crowd. It took me a while to recover from that one!

And noting her age, she was 75 that summer when she came striding across the street in front of my car! Wow!

But you could look at it from another slant, Mac. "Did I ever tell you about the time I saved Katharine Hepburn's life? She was in too much of a hurry and didn't look where she was going. "

I would have been freaked out considerably from the near-miss. To realize that I'd nearly missed a celebrity who I admire was just horrible! By the way, as I recall, my co-workers were quite blase about it. Apparently she came to see all the shows...

Great story, Mac. (I still say, you saved her life. LOL )
Yes to Spencer Tracy, Max. I was thinking of the Priest in The Devil at 4 O'Clock and I think he was a Judge in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.
