I think a few of you are taking this the wrong way - it's not an attack on Spendi at all, it's just a chance for Spendi to explain the bits that didn't seem to make sense at the time.

It's funny how he freely admits that he often posts offtopic - I got cautioned by the Hamsters once for doing that. Anyway, back into my history file to find more spendyisms.

Most of the time I find some profundity in Spendi's clarifiable unclear utterances.

His obvious tendency to ironise and put other people down is counterbalanced by a amazing mastering of rhetorics in a way that undermines his contradictors' beliefs.

In addition, I'm really doubtful of his convictions about religion but from a sociological point of view I think he has a good grasp on it.

Even his misogyny seems fake..

@Francis,
Hope you don't mind, Spendy; it's all done in fun.

That's nice Spendi but what about 'He claimed you were suffering from a blackout on information.'

I'd have thought that pretty clear!!!

"You" = the US.

You'd disagree?

In the popular, media, of course...the info is out there...

Of course, I adore Vidal.

I, for one believe that his misogyny is indeed real. He effortlessly returns to it in quiet moments.

He is apparently interested in technical subjects and his lack of information about them doesnt seem to matter. He will often post quite outrageous POVs and , if we accepted them as realistic, we would be suckered into responding to all sorts of idiocy.

His attempts at being the " J. M. Whistler" of A2k may be admirable if only his attempts at humor were onto some point.

I find him harmless but kind of creepy. I sure wouldnt have him meet the children.

@dlowan,
My introduction to the man was via the original "ID" thread where , after a rather polite introduction, his successive posts became more and more frenzied and rude to anyone who embraced evolution synthesis.

As far as anywhere else, Im not aware of his efforts . He seems to target a few thread types and hang on for dear life.

@farmerman,
One thing I don't do is make up a load of self-reassuring bullshit.

This thread is about me explaining anything I've posted that confuses people. So you're off topic already effemm.

And as for being "frenzied and rude" on the ID thread the anti-IDers were way ahead of me in that regard to the 80 odd % of religious Americans on a daily basis. Over the top in fact. Your statement relies on viewers here not having seen the record over four years. Which makes you "creepy" and underhanded.

And you have shown yourself aware of my efforts on many other threads so that was a lie. You steer clear of Trivia because you're not good enough for it. But you know about it. And your "art" crap. And your biofuel begging bowl.

jespah-- I don't mind at all. I like fun. There are too many glowering, po-faced Presbyterian tee-totallers like effemm on A2K.

It's definitely drunkenness. And it's quite noticeable from time to time.

The only one who is worse about that is Finn, who goes from being well-reasoned (yet completely wrong) to a real ass when he's in his cups.

I define misogyny as placing women in positions they are clearly unfitted for and which they are unhappy in. I cite as evidence the health issues which result. And many women agree with me.

Anybody can be a working woman when she's sat in a Media centre, giving her views and getting a public persona. Try it in the jobs I see women doing on a regular basis and, invariably managed by men. The first group is a tiny minority and the second comprises millions of women.

Some of the high profile women in Media have expressed serious concerns about what they have been doing. Most notably an editor of Cosmopolitan who has publicly apologised for what she presided over.

I exclude nurses of course and show business.

I don't think of women workers in the abstract in order to mouth self-serving platitudes. I feel sorry and ashamed at most of what I see and I see plenty. That stuff about me not getting out is just another self-serving platitude. Made up.

Jane's observation bears repeating.

I worry sometimes that I think I understanding what Spendi is saying when everybody else is piling on and trashing him. Should I? Worry I mean? Smile

He generally advises me that I haven't understood him, however.

Seriously, he is as capable as anybody here of stating his meaning clearly, succinctly, and without frills or embellishments, but he seems to choose not to when others sanctimoniously pronounce themselves superior to him or his intellect or opinion. He pulls a lot of your chains with fascinating predictability. Smile

I like him.

I can barely get tipsy on 2.5 pints of John Smith's Extra Smooth at 3.8%. And I never touch alcohol outside of 10.40 pm and 11.45 pm. You're talking out of your puritan arse Cyclo. Are you not allowed out? Is that it? Or skint maybe? The last hour in the pub is the last bastion of freedom. If ever it goes your freedom, what little you have, will go with it.

Anyway- two self-serving platitudes asserted in 11 words is very efficient mouth-foaming.
In which of my posts was my alleged drunkenness quite noticeable? You sound like the Star Chamber or a Kangaroo Court or a lynch mob leader.

Does it get you off?

I'm supposed to be explaining those of my posts which people can't understand. Can you not find any?

@Mame,
He's certainly a breath of fresh air compared to the half dozen or so bunch that appear to enjoy aggressive posts, controversy, and confrontation, all the while complaining about others on this site, and the site itself.

I find him intriguing.

Yes, we certainly like him here. I can appreciate some of his posts, others I am
not too fond of, especially when he talks about women and their role in life,
however, spendius is harmless and compared to others he's quite polite in his
insults, should he utter them out.

I really don't know what some of you are carrying on about with accusations of over sipping and not understanding what he says. The above statement is brilliant! Brilliant, I say! Truly sig line worthy.

Although I have posted before that I do not understand him sometimes, and he has been rather rude towards me on an ocassion or two, I would still miss his presence were he to not continue here.

@farmerman,
You failed to answer my post properly again effemm. Look back on the ID thread and see just how frenzied anti-IDers have been.

I always check it out when I see your name on a post. I'm hoping to find something I can use against you in the larger argument. Like when I copped you cleaning the sea-food out of the bowthrusters or fending off the chap who was coming on to Mrs effemm at the "art" exhibition.

There's a programme been running on Sky Arts called Artworld USA. The presenters, a bloke and a floozie, are touring America in a bus psychedelically painted. They are looking at what can only be described as Folly Art. Last night they were stood in front of a framed photo which the curator was speaking of in glowing terms. The presenter asked him just what it was about the picture that made it so special. The curator looked dumfounded for a few seconds obviously never having been asked that before. Then he said, in that authority laden American accent--"It's just a great photograph." The asserter in the crosswires. The presenter looked at the camera raising his eyebrows as if he was saying " blimey, folks, eh. Is this guy nuts or what? " It was in Seattle. I like it though. It looks like all you need do is buy some junk from an art-shop and hey-presto, you're an artist. And if you're rich you just pile it up high. Then you're a great artist.

I check out all the regulars on any threads I participate in. It helps to weave a pattern out of the chaos. Cross post insemination.

I'm stalking the ladies. I hate blokes and especially opinionated twottles like you.

Don't overestimate your capacities Cyclo. If that "hit a nerve" I would have been dead a long time from pulverized nerves.

It was advice.
