Israel has no "cause." They have been trying to live in peace since 1948; however its neighbors have not always accepted that wish. So, the current state of affairs is basically in retaliation for the rocket attacks. Now, why wouldn't the rockets stop, to allow a blockade to be loosened? Possibly, the "cause" of the Palestinians is greater than the concern for cash?

assisting Hammas is not in Israel's best interest, they need moderates to negotiate with, but they keep feeding the radical opposition.. The policy of an eye for an eye has not gotten Israel anywhere either with Palestine nor with Lebanon. These cats simply refuse to learn.

Israel, I believe, could squash Gaza. The question is why have they not done so. If countries in other regions had Israel's military abilities, do you think another country would hesitate to squash an enemy? This is not an eye for an eye; it is more like Israel is being very patient.

Israel can not do that, they can not survive a Arab/Persian effort to rub them out. America can only protect Israel so far.
