Any suggestions for a creative name for a business?
I am thinking of starting a tax practice "on the side." I would like to put an add in my local newspaper to see if I get any responses. Does anyone have any suggestions for a creative name for my potential company? Thanks so much!

@cheriw02893,
I think taxes are typically prepared by CPA's, not businesses (unless we're talking H&R Block, which is also someone's name). So you'd probably just use your name -- [Insert Name], CPA, Tax Specialist -- or something along those lines. I haven't seen too many tax businesses with cute names.

@cheriw02893,
My dad had his own accounting business for a short time while I was a kid. It was called (Last name)'s Bookkeeping and Tax Service.

Do some Google Searches using keywords such as Tax Preparation Service, Bookkeeping Service, Accounting Service, etc., to get an idea of what is already being used.

That will give you some guidance as to the generally accepted names for such businesses.

I think a business name that reflects something of the service offered is your best bet rather than something cutesy that may not show up as prominently in the yellow pages and/or won't be perceived as businesslike or as serious or competent. Folks don't want clever when they want their taxes done. They want their taxes done right.

@cheriw02893,
How 'bout Rebates R Us ?

You want something catchy and easy to remember so that when a potential customer thinks of taxes, your name crops up in the back of his/her mind. Right now H&R Block hold that position but only because they've overwhelmed everybody with advertising and saturated the market like McDonald's -- an H&R on every street corner. Presumably your initial investment capital isn't unlimited, so you can't do that. You need something people will remember, along the lines of Charles Schwab's "Talk to Chuck."

Give me time. I'll think of something.

Btw, are you Cheri Amour from Seattlebuzz? If so, welcome to A2k. If not, welcome to A2k.

Associated Bookkeepers here in Albuquerque--bookkeeping and tax service--put there name up front in the yellow pages with the letter "A". Their office is sort of a hole in the wall but is on a heavily traveled street and the sign on the street is their name written over a replica of one of those green columnar pads that we have all used. Clever, catches the eye, and memorable. They get a lot of business.
