I am going this afternoon to look at 2 used 94 nissan 300zx's.
I dont yet know how much they are being sold for, nor do I know their condition.
I have read a few pages of information on them and from skimming, they seem to be a somewhat useful used car to own.
I want one because I want something a bit 'flashy' but not overly dramatic.
It has a good size back seat for Jillian and a trunk that can hold a bit of stuff.
It gets over 20mph which is not the best, but not bad for someone who does not drive that often anymore.

What I can not seem to find a lot of info on in the sites I used ( consumer guide, Edmunds) is reliability?
AND- it apparently is a big issue being able to find one that has not been modified by some teeny-bopper into a wanna be race car. I dont want one modified.. I just want the basic car.

But how are nissans when it comes to reliability?
Anyone have any long term experience with one?
In a forum that was about "street racers" a few people made the comment that the car requires premium gasoline...
There are very few cars that actually require premium gas, and most of them are out of a street racer persons budget..
Looking on Nissan dot com, I did not see this statement to be true...

Anyone? Help? Smile

@shewolfnm,
you'll be sorry...

1. expensive to repair (high performance means $$ at the shop.)

2. desirable to ruffians (theft likeliness increases)

3. at 15 years old, it has been run hard..., little old ladies dint buy them.

best wishes wolfette...

@Rockhead,
hrm yeah im from a performance perspective, so i like them and wouldnt mind sinking money into it.

i say go for a honda civic. VERY reliable, cheap parts, cheap repair unless u total it even then stil fixable, and AMAZING gas mileage. and the 4 doors are usually undesirrable to racers so the price is lower than usual.
easy to maintain as well, if the designs are weird sometimes leading to awkward placement of bolts etc..

The ones I see that I wanted to check out are not the turbo.
They are the basic 300 model.

This one-

That photo is of a modified one, but that is the car I am looking at.

I know, when it comes to repair, it will not be a toyota.. ( cheap, very few repairs..etc) but I find it kind of puzzling that I can not find ANYTHING on how they perform when it comes to repair needs.

Maybe this is a bad idea?

I do love how it looks. I agree with ya on that one Og.. that is one pretty car.

but. I cant afford several thousand dollars of repair right out of the shoot either ya know..

@OGIONIK,
I have been looking for a used Honda as well. But finding one that is not dropped, or that does not have 20' rims is next to impossible. Laughing

but.. for a car for me, I really want something a bit flashier then a Homer car like the Honda, or Corolla..

I love the Toyota Solara.. I just cant find a used one for less then 10,000 that isnt completely destroyed, or at 200+ miles..

If not the nissan 300zx, what about the nissan brand in general?
How is their reliability?

I know they do not compare to your Honda/Toyota ..... but are they that bad?
What if I went with a Nissan sedan of some kind? Are they as expensive to repair?

@shewolfnm,
nissan is third behind the other two. not bad, and no more expensive to repair.

Slightly less well made, as to fit, finish, and longevity.

As a used car, more affordable in sedan form then the Toyo or Honda.

Avoid the base model, and the premium. The middle cars are decent buys.

@Rockhead,
my question in particular is aimed at Nissan trucks/SUV

In searching through local craigslist ads, I see Nissan pathfinders are almost a dime a dozen. This could be from market overflow ...people getting rid of large vehicles because of gasoline price scare

or it could be because they are pieces of junk.. ?

@shewolfnm,
I would not pay that for it.

Pathfinders have some body issues, and I am not sure I trust an automatic in that platform from a repair standpoint. (it is a 96)

Girl can't make a decision (curse words about stupid folks)

I got no time to wait...

@shewolfnm,
Don't know if it's the same where you are, but the best deals on used cars are often at new car dealerships. For example, if I'm looking for a used Honda/Toyota in really good shape, I'll now look at a BMW dealership. People have traded up, and the Beemer dealer just wants those cars off the lot. Good good deals there.
