Favorite Junky Comfort Foods

Reply Tue 25 Nov, 2008 03:52 pm
I just realized something this week. Whenever I am feeling particularly blue, I take myself down toKentucky Fried Chicken, and get a chicken pot pie. It is pure junk......not much chicken, and lots of cornstarch, but I find that eating one will snap me out of a lousy mood. Otherwise, I would not normally even consider going to KFC.

Do you have any "comfort foods" that you eat when you are feeling down and depressed?

@farmerman,
Is this what you mean? You can get huge tins of them in either Sam's or Costco, I forget which.

@Phoenix32890,
OOOOOOOH YEEEEH. I love the vanilla ones (not so much hazelnut-I actually get nauseated from the smell of hazelnut)

I think I really got shitfaced on Frangelico in a former life

@Phoenix32890,
No, the Pirouettes are delicious - farmerman must think of these - Hostess
twinkies.

I always opt for chocolate, preferably Milka, but since I can buy Ritter Sport
just about everywhere now, I will buy them - great chocolate filled with whole hazelnuts. After wards, I will feel as good as new!

I never eat junky foods, I survive mostly on Lil Debbie dessert cakes and Hostess fruit pies.

I should add that I include food supplements such as Atenol/Benazepril/Advair and Sprivia.

Not only is Lil' Debbie's cheap, but you can buy it in quantity, because it has a shelf-life equivalent to the half-life of uranium . . .

@Setanta,
Well, I know my Little Debbies all have a "best if served by..." followed by a distant year.

My comfy food used to be a pint of Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream but I haven't been able to eat much of it lately because of the high fat content and the low fat version tastes like cardboard.

So, now I satisfy my discomfort with a large container of a neighborhood restaurant's barbecued teriyaki combo plate. It comes with chicken, pork and beef over a huge mound of rice and a huge side of fresh braised veggies such as cabbage, carrots, onions and broccoli. I usually also get a side of their homemade pot stickers and dipping sauce. It is usually enough to make 3 meals out of but is expensive so I can't afford it very often. Not having to cook and still get good food is the rewarding comfy part of it.

@Phoenix32890,
I recently lost 13 pounds the safe and healthy way and want to lose another 15 the same way. The comfort foods that seem to be my biggest culprit are anything that is sweet, creamy and cold - icecream ofcourse, and any dessert that I refrigerate. I also go for carbs of most kinds like rice, etc.. I am a teacher and eat extremely early in the day because of my schedule, so I have tried to have a healthy, filling snack waiting in my car for me on the trip home, or I am really tempted to stop for a non-healthy snack or pig out when I get home.

@dyslexia,
Hostess fruit pies- Boy, does that bring back memories. When my son was little, we would go to the supermarket. I would buy a Hostess fruit pie for each of us. We weuld eat them in the car, before we started home.....................................Then, one day I read the calorie count! Shocked
