I asked this one a while back, but I can't find it.

Say I end up being able to afford a beautiful looking PC.....what are they?

I've found Gateway One so far.

I can recall people naming others.

Any beauties that you know of?

@dlowan,
I like some of HP's All-in-One PCs. Basically just looks like a big flat screen.

Look for anything with a logo on it resembling a piece of fruit with a bite out of it.

@dlowan,
Laptops are beautiful. They take up so little space.

Many choices where you can pick what ever you want inside and then cover it with beauty with out much grief I think?

Want inherent beauty, not paint.

Hmm, i personally would focus on getting a good looking monitor, and stash the computer itself on the floor behind something. I think desks look best when there is a monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse, and some cool looking speakers. No actual computer in sight.

A quick search shows that most the big name computer manufactures have some version of their "All in One" PC that has the computer built into the monitor. I would shy away from these personally, as they are difficult to upgrade. An easy example is what happens when you decide you want a bigger monitor?

I don't know if this question is just for fun or not, but I would discourage anyone from buying a computer based on how it looks. How often are you really going to be looking at the case? If anything look for things that may prove useful, such as media card readers, front usb ports / sound ports, etc. If anything use looks as a last filter to narrow a list of a few choices down.

@Nick Ashley,
Sensible advice.....but, I would quite like (if possible) to have as little computer equipment around as possible...especially as I would like the machine to be in a social part of the house, not my study.

Of course, if the pretty machines are significantly worse, it would make no sense...but I HATE looking at electrical equipment with a passion, and the all-in-ones really appeal to me for that reason. You can still see the damn boxes and there has to be a place for them with normal PCs.

Apart from the upgrade thing (and you can, I presume get into the things if they need repairs?) are you saying the pretty ones are bad?

We...er...may have gonadally and temperamentally and work-based different computing priorities, methinks.

Dammit!!! On the last thread I did about this ages ago there were quite a few pretty computers.

Wish I could find that thread.

Of course, they may all have been naturally selected out in the interim.

@dlowan,
Why, may I ask, are you married to the notion of desktop, particularly if you are so loath to have loads of plastic and wires around the place?

One thing to keep in mind: the computers being made three years ago would not run Vista reasonably; the computers being made today will.
