@dadpad,
Inherent beauty and a computer. My guess would be the inherent beauty of computers would be within the parts we cannot know. Or the beauty you seek is within your own view of the computer which means????

@patiodog,
A good thing about desktop computers
is that u can use an ergonomic 3 dimensional keyboard.
Thay r very comfortable (altho addictive; u wudn't wanna revert).

I don 't know if u can plug them into laptops.

@dlowan,
Is there a specific reason you don't want mac? (Cause you know you can run Windows on them instead if you wanna...)

How about this for $1599 aus.

To each their own. I want to have as much computer equipment around as possible. The real estate lady said our house has a dining room. I say it has a computer room Smile

Of course, if the pretty machines are significantly worse, it would make no sense...but I HATE looking at electrical equipment with a passion, and the all-in-ones really appeal to me for that reason.

Apart from the upgrade thing (and you can, I presume get into the things if they need repairs?) are you saying the pretty ones are bad?

There are advantages to a typical desktop as opposed to an all-in-one (such as my replace a monitor example) but I wouldn't say hardware wise they are inherently any better or worse. Some things can be repaired/upgraded just fine, but others might not be able to.

You know, last time I asked this question you came up with some beauties.

As I said in my first post, this one is not bad:

This is all a big "maybe".

But I'm enjoying the window-shopping!

@dlowan,
Still don't know what you've got against laptops. Seriously -- do you have some computing capacity that they just won't meet? Do you not want to pay more for portability? Do you just not like using them? 'Cuz, aesthetically speaking, I think they've got what you're looking for -- virtual invisibility...

Heh-heh.....I know the different attitude to electrical equipment is not an essential sex difference (as innie and outtie gonads are...but...Hey! Perhaps that's where the different aesthetic stems from, though!!! You know, you guys think it should all be out there, and we think it should be subtly tucked away...but I digress...) but I must say it does appear to be a common one!

IF I can afford a beauty, I will check on the repairability/upgrade thing...from a repairer/upgrader.

@patiodog,
Well, I asked the desktop vs laptop question ages ago...and decided.

I HATE the damn little keypads, and the dumb finger mouse thing....I know you can hook them up to better stuff....but then why have a laptop at all?

Re the portability.....I use computers at home or work...I really, generally, do not want to travel with them...

@dlowan,
lol - and as a Male who grew up fascinated with computers, and explored various areas of computing throughout my life *, I'm among the worst (or best!) of the male species Smile

* for those curious, I started out with hardware, building computers for friends/family. Almost got certified, but didn't want to pay to take a test. Then got into networking, DID become cisco certified, realized it wasn't for me. Finally tried programming, and fell in love. I enjoyed all four years of earning my computer science degree, and sometimes miss going to class to learn more.
