@dyslexia,
This has been a sub plot that underpins the entire election . Ive heard it said by concerned citizens that they wont vote for Barack because they know hell be shot.

I say, just triple the SS and protect the sumbitch. Skinheads, noazis, extremeists of all stripes need to be made unwelcome

@dyslexia,
Found this:

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5g8-DEMtAE9q4i4ySQ0eV_qZefmRQD9432FN80

Previous "plans" have turned out to be far away from being carried out (as in, big talkers but little apparent possibility of it actually happening), hope that turns out to be the case here, too.

(Wait, "in court records unsealed Monday"? So this is something that happened a while ago, and the "news" is that it was just unsealed?)

This should in no way keep Obama out of office. Build a Popemobile for his public appearances if necessary.

@sozobe,
I read that it was sealed and delayed because they were trying to determine if these two were the only ones involved or if there were others.

@Butrflynet,
Yes, they seem to have been caught October 24th.

Seems to follow the pattern of other one(s). (Can only remember one other right now, the guys in trucks during the Dem convention.) Maybe they would've managed something terrible, I dunno. But not even they thought they would be able to kill 88 people, behead 14 more, and THEN go for Obama. They thought they would die somewhere along the way.

@sozobe,
The complaint and affidavit are now online. The affidavit has a lot more details. This could have been a very ugly event in Tennessee. There was a third person involved. Wonder why she hasn't been arrested.

It will take some time to find out if this bunch posed a credible threat. Government forces have a habit of arresting nut jobs that never could have amounted to much and then releasing a media blitz in order to make it look like the police are on top of things.

They got her involved because the two right wing conservative Republican stalwarts couldn't count to 88 let alone add the two numbers together.

@dyslexia,
NBC was late to the game - FOX broke the story before anyone else.
No connection to the DNC has been established yet.

You know, this is a strange, but telling situation.
Bush did so many things that were unpopular....to the point that many of us would have preferred him....you know....gone.
But the people he pissed off were generally liberals and left leaning moderates., hardly the crowd whose first instinct is to shoot first, ask questions later.
No, Obama isn't even president yet, and there have already been 3 plan (distant or otherwise) to take his life. Goes to show you what the right wing of America is like.

Ironically, in the news yesterday, gun sales have gone up 8-10% when, they also claimed, nearly every other consumer market met declining sales.

It really speaks to the culture as well as the social and political climate of the US these days.

@candidone1,
Actually, the gun sales are up WAY more than that. In the past 10 years the database has been online, something like 18 million gun purchases were screened. They did 1 million screenings in August of 2008 alone.

@cjhsa,
I think this may have been an analysis of a recent time period...like over the month, or last several weeks or something like that.
They were talking about other sales figures, and gun sales were the only ones to have seen positive increases over that time frame.

I think the increase in sales is a function of anxieties (among the NRA crowd) that a liberal leaning government will make gun purchases/ownership more problematic.

But America is a violent culture and the discovered plots to assassinate a black president (not to mention earlier assassinations and attempts) make this worrisome indeed.

And my worries here aren't strictly the possibility of the losing the guy (which would be in itself an enormous tragedy). One can easily imagine what the consequences of this would be in terms of social upheaval and THAT end would serve the purposes of a number of un-nice people. Hate to even talk about this.

Indiana GOP Sec of State Helped Stop Florida Recount
By Zachary Roth - October 28, 2008, 1:32PM
Yesterday we told you about an effort by Indiana's Republican secretary of state, Todd Rokita, to press federal and state authorities to prosecute ACORN for voter fraud. Rokita had said a review by his office of forms submitted by ACORN found "multiple criminal violations."

But it turns out that Rokita hardly has a reputation as a non-partisan public official. In October 2002, the South Bend Tribune reported (via nexis):

Working on his own time, [Rokita] also assisted George W. Bush's campaign during the infamous Florida election recount in 2000. Rokita is proud of that, especially because the U.S. Supreme Court cited Indiana election law when it decided the election in Bush's favor.

In other words, Rokita was part of the team of ambitious young Republican operatives who flew down to Florida to help out on a bid to stymie the recount effort -- remember the "Brooks Brothers riot"? -- and ultimately put George Bush in the White House.

That background as a partisan knife-fighter is worth keeping in mind as Rokita seeks to stoke fears about voter fraud -- and, more generally, as he administers what could be a very close election in Indiana.

@dyslexia,
Here's one of the perps. Looks more like a disenfranchised, gay, Hillary supporter to me.

@hawkeye10,
Regardless if they were smart enough to carry it out, I am glad they were taken seriously and stopped.

I am wondering if Palin would consider those people terrorist since she didn't consider abortion clinic bombers terrorist?
