Barack Obama cuts TV station’s cord over Joe Biden grilling

ORLANDO, Fla. - Barack Obama’s campaign has pulled the plug on a Florida news station’s access to the presidential candidate after an anchorwoman angered Joe Biden with uncomfortable questions during a satellite interview.

WFTV-Channel 9 anchorwoman Barbara West quizzed Sen. Biden about Obama’s intention to “spread the wealth,” referring to the Democratic White House contender’s comments to “Joe the Plumber.”

She compared Obama’s comments to the socialist doctrine of Karl Marx then asked Biden, “How is Sen. Obama not being a Marxist if he intends to ‘spread the wealth?’ ”

Biden paused momentarily, grinned, then asked, “Are you joking? Is this a joke? Is this a real question?”

He defended Obama by saying he hoped to spread the wealth by giving the middle class tax breaks. “It’s a ridiculous question,” Biden concluded.

But West wasn’t finished as she asked Biden about his comments that Obama could be tested early on as president. She wondered if the Delaware senator was saying America’s days as the world’s leading power were over.

“I don’t know who’s writing your questions,” Biden shot back.

After Thursday’s interview, the Obama campaign canceled a scheduled interview with Biden’s wife, Jill, according to the station’s Web site.

“This cancellation is non-negotiable, and further opportunities for your station to interview with this campaign are unlikely at best for the duration of the remaining days until the election,” wrote Laura K. McGinnis, Central Florida communications director for the Obama campaign.

McGinnis said the Biden cancellation was “a result of her husband’s experience yesterday during the satellite interview with Barbara West.”

“Mr. Biden didn’t like the questions,” said WFTV news director Bob Jordan. “We choose not to ask softball questions.”

That's a very good point Spendius and something I have a real problem with at A2K.

@cjhsa,
The interview was a bit over four minutes and I got to watch the entire thing yesterday. The lady asked really tough questions that ALL the media should have been asking all this time, but she was not snippy or petulant or disrespectful in any way. Not a single question was inappropriate to ask of a Presidential candidate. Biden was obviously annoyed.

This is becoming more and more Obama's MO. Don't let Obama or Biden go anywhere without a teleprompter these days. Keep the boom mikes at a distance in uncontrolled situations. Shut down, close off the opposition if you can, and accuse them of racism if you can't. (That has been fairly effective in shutting up any would be critics in the media.)

Even here on A2K, Obama supporters call any critics 'politically motivated', extremist, ideologically brainwashed, having no objectivity, hateful, racist, liars or any other label they can attach. Out there in the world they conduct investigations of and trash people or blacklist any who would presume to ask an embarrassingly appropriate question.

You can be sure that they will push through the so-called 'Fairness Doctrine' to silence the Conservative voice as quickly as possible if Obama becomes President, and it does not appear they will be reluctant to do whatever else they can to effectively silence any critics of an Obama administration.

It's pretty scary when you think about it.

Obama and his campaign does not like to be asked critical questions.

The media must stop asking critical questions. McCain should never criticize any of Obama's policies, or past relationships.

That is not fair.

Well--it does them no credit Foxy. It isn't criticism at all. It isn't a point of view. It is just hatred and rabid malice. An urbane person wouldn't even talk of criminals in such a fashion.

It flags up that they have no answers. One seasoned A2Ker trumpeted putting me on Ignore and asserted that I was "outside of things" (whatever that means) yesterday. It saved him taking my post on you see. I've had years of it on the ID thread.

You guys are so funny!

West usually reports on health issues. She does not cover politics.

However, her husband is a GOP media consultant.

Now we know where she got her questions.

@squinney,
It's only scary if we let them get away with it and fail to point out what imbeciles they are.

@squinney,
No, you have no idea. You are just another typical partisan democrat who refuses to have their candidate challenged on their positions.

Shame on you!
