I posed the following question to the able2know contact address, "I'd be pleased if you could tell me the meaning of the heading "Answered Questions" in my profile? I note forever the number 0 behind it, yet I answer questions almost on a daily basis in the "Lovatts" thread.
I received the following reply from the able2know Support Team, "This is a question better answered on our site so that others may benefit from this information. Be that as it may, the answer is that (a) you have to be answering a question, not a discussion and (b) yours has to be the "best" answere as chosen by the questioner."
With due respect to the Support Team, their reply raises more questions.
1. When a member places a request for an answer on the Trivial & Games thread, like they do in Lovatts etc, isn't that a question?
2. Having supplied the solutions to hundreds of such questions over the years doesn't that qualify for "Answered Questions?"
3. How is the "best" answer chosen by the questioner? All the questioner does is post his query on the thread, gets his answer, and in most cases acknowledges the answer with a thank you. He does no more to my knowledge.
Is there anybody here who can explain this heading "Answered Questions" in more detail to me?

@Dutchy,
1. the person posing the question has to choose "question" v "discussion" when they start the thread.

2. I would guess the answer will be no, since the question/discussion formats haven't been around for long - and that's what creates the number - I can't imagine any of the volunteer staff has the time or energy to manually poke through old threads to look at questions anyone might have answered (and they wouldn't be able to identify the 'best' answer in any case)

3. the person asking the question - having chosen the question format - will see the option to select any following post as the best answer - as I recall there was a button at the top of each response visible only to the questioner - visible only until they've selected the 'best' answer.

~~~~
Have you tried asking a question? It's really the only way to see how it works.
I'm not on the Support Team - just a poster and poker.
@Dutchy,
Ah - answered my own question - this is a question, so you should be able to see the 'best' selection option.
@Dutchy,
I can answer that, but the bottom line is that some of the feature is unfinished and not working the way it should.
Right now, someone starts a question, and selects one of the replies as the answer the topic is marked "answered" and the user whose reply was selected gets another "question answered" counted in their profile.
The problem is that most people asking the questions, aren't selecting any answers and this feature needs a lot of work to improve on it. In the future they will be asked to mark their questions answered when they are resolved to help others keep track of what still needs help and to give credit to those who are answering questions and we'll build tools to remind them to do so when we address some of the holes in that feature (it's currently on our shortlist to work on).
