@Miller,
Miller, none of the Obama supporters will concede anything. Obama walks on water at this point. It borders on religious fanaticism, and if you doubt it, watch the victory celebrations.

@okie,
I noticed that Valerie Jarrett was on the stage with the Obamas etc tonight at Grant Park, in Chicago.

I'm wondering what position she'll be holding in the new Obama administration.

Time will tell...

She was born to a white mother and a father, who was at least 50% white. That's why she looks as white as she does.

@Miller,
Ms Jarrett, according to the NYTimes carries baggage, as a candidate for Obama's inner circle.

Quote:
...her link to Habitat could cause complications. The company, the court-appointed overseer of vast tracts of Chicago's public housing, has been accused of mismanaging some of those projects, allowing them to deteriorate even more than they had under government supervision.

It will be very interesting to see how long Obama maintaintains his "friendship" and ties to both Rahm Emanuel and Valerie Jarrett.

On Iranian.com, we find "Iranian of the Day" and what do we read there?

knowledgeplex.org: Jarrett is a member of African-American and Chicago royalty. But her story and her life begin in the Middle East, not the Midwest. She was born in 1956 in Shiraz, Iran, about 570 miles south of Tehran. Her parents moved to Shiraz, known for its poets, wine and flowers, as part of a program that sent American doctors and agricultural experts to developing countries to help jump-start their health and farming efforts. Her father was on the staff of the brand new Nemazee Hospital, where Jarrett was born. "Every memory from Iran is a very happy memory," Jarrett told me in an e-mail

Ms. Jarrett was born in Shiraz, Iran, in 1956, and educated at a New England prep school. But while Mr. Obama was once an outsider in Chicago’s black community, Ms. Jarrett was a member of its royalty. Her great-grandfather was the first African-American to graduate from M.I.T., her grandfather was the first black man to head the Chicago Housing Authority, and her father was the first black resident at St. Luke’s Hospital. Though Ms. Jarrett has never worked in Washington, her great-uncle is Vernon Jordan, the well-known Democratic power broker.

@Miller,

Habitat, which manages subsidized housing throughout the city, has been criticized for mismanaging some of its properties. One of the public-private projects, Grove Parc Plaza, deteriorated so badly that federal inspectors rated conditions there an 11 on a 100-point scale and moved to seize the property.

Jarrett has supported a transformation of public housing that has demolished whole public housing projects and replaced them with mixed housing that includes both affordable and market-rate units, said Ethan Michaeli, publisher of Residents’ Journal, a non-profit publication that covers Chicago’s low-income communities, who has written about Jarrett since the early 90s.

The approach “hasn’t done much for public housing tenants or poor people in general,” he said, largely because the mixed-use developments have less affordable housing.

The policy has poured billions of taxpayer dollars into private development and management companies and reduced the number of public housing units, Michaeli said. And when he talks to former residents of the demolished Robert Taylor Homes, more than 4,400 apartments in 28 high-rise buildings named after Jarrett’s grandfather, Michaeli said he has never met a resident who benefited from the mixed-use approach.

“If their lives were better, it was despite the best efforts of the housing agency, not because of them,” he said.

“You’re not hearing she’ll be HUD secretary, I hope?” Michaeli asked early in an interview. “She wouldn’t be the first person I would choose for progress on public housing.”

@Miller,
Obama names Valerie Jarrett as senior advisor
In a key appointment, the campaign advisor and longtime friend will serve as a public liaison.
By Christi Parsons

November 15, 2008

Reporting from Washington " Valerie Jarrett, a prominent Chicago business and political figure and an influential member of President-elect Barack Obama's inner circle, is poised to play a crucial role in the White House as a public liaison and senior aide to the president.

In an official announcement due today, Jarrett will be named senior advisor and assistant to the president in charge of intergovernmental relations.

In the job, she will have the ear of the president and act as a go-between with state and local elected officials and public interest groups, said a source close to Obama's advisors.

The appointment is a key early assignment for the Obama administration. Some had speculated that Jarrett might be appointed to take Obama's place in the U.S. Senate or possibly serve as head of a federal agency.

But as a trusted Obama family friend and confidant to the president-elect, Jarrett is seen by many Democrats as more valuable closer in, as a top aide in the White House.

Already, she is serving as co-chair of the president-elect's transition panel, helping to put together the team that will run the government after Obama takes office in January.

Her relationship with Michelle and Barack Obama goes back to the day in 1991 when Michelle, then a young lawyer, came into her office for a job interview. Jarrett was deputy chief of staff to Mayor Richard Daley at the time, and she ended up hiring Michelle -- but only after a joint interview with Michelle and her then-fiance, Barack Obama.

Barack Obama wanted to know if she was going to look after his fiancee's interests, as Jarrett tells the story. The three have been close friends ever since.

Efforts to reach Jarrett for comment on Friday night were unsuccessful, but in a Chicago Tribune interview for another article, she offered optimistic predictions for the administration she is helping to build.

She said she thinks the Obama White House will operate with a tolerance for opposing views, and with a civil tone in dealing with Congress and with interest groups.

"It's a tone that goes beyond the Cabinet," she said. "It's the approach he'll use in reaching out to Congress. The grass-roots campaign we ran was about galvanizing the American people. This is that time of unity."

Obama Advisor Valerie Jarrett Linked to Real Estate Scandals

Washington, DC -- November 14, 2008
Jarrett Managed Housing Project Deemed "Uninhabitable"

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it has obtained documents linking Valerie Jarrett, an advisor to Barack Obama and the co-chairman of the President-Elect's transition team, to a series of real estate scandals, including several housing projects operated by convicted felon and Obama fundraiser/friend Antoin "Tony" Rezko.

According to the documents obtained by Judicial Watch from the Illinois Secretary of State, Valerie Jarrett served as a board member for several organizations that provided funding and support for Chicago housing projects operated by real estate developers and Obama financial backers Rezko and Allison Davis. (Davis is also Obama's former boss.) Jarrett was a member of the Board of Directors for the Woodlawn Preservation and Investment Corporation along with several Davis and Rezko associates, as well as the Fund for Community Redevelopment and Revitalization, an organization that worked with Rezko and Davis.

(According to press reports, housing projects operated by Davis and Rezko have been substandard and beset with code violations. The Chicago Sun Times reported that one Rezko-managed housing project was "riddled with problems -- including squalid living conditions...lack of heat, squatters and drug dealers.")

As Chief Executive Officer of the Habitat Company Jarrett also managed a controversial housing project located in Obama's former state senate district called Grove Parc Plaza. According to the Boston Globe the housing complex was considered "uninhabitable by unfixed problems, such as collapsed roofs and fire damage...In 2006, federal inspectors graded the condition of the complex an 11 on a 100-point scale -- a score so bad the buildings now face demolition." Ms. Jarrett refused to comment to the Globe on the conditions of the complex.

"Like Barack Obama, Valerie Jarrett is a product of the corrupt Chicago political machine. And it is no stretch to say that she was a slumlord," said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. "We have real concerns about Jarrett's ethics. Washington already has plenty of corruption. We don't need to import more of it from Chicago."

Characterized as "the other side of Barack Obama's brain" by CBS News, Jarrett first met the Obamas seventeen years ago when she offered Michelle Obama a job. While speculation has arisen that Jarrett could take Obama's place in the U.S. Senate, the New York Times reported that it is more likely she will become a senior White House adviser, thus continuing her long record of being an important influence and mentor to Barack and Michelle Obama.

@Miller,
Obama Advisor Valerie Jarrett Linked to Real Estate Scandals

Barack Obama's personnel decisions as President-Elect are crushing any hopes that his administration will bring a new spirit of integrity and honesty to Washington. First there was the selection of Clinton attack dog Rahm Emanuel as his Chief of Staff. Then there was the selection of another Clinton crony, John Podesta, to co-chair Obama's transition team. And now Barack Obama has tapped Valerie Jarrett to partner with Podesta in handling the transition.

Who is Valerie Jarrett?

Characterized as "the other side of Barack Obama's brain" by CBS News, Jarrett first met the Obamas seventeen years ago when she offered Michelle Obama a job. Since that time Jarrett has served as a very close advisor to both Obamas. While some have speculated that Jarrett is interested in taking Obama's place in the U.S. Senate, the New York Times reported that it is more likely she will become a senior White House adviser. And that is terrible news.

Judicial Watch recently obtained documents linking Valerie Jarrett to a series of real estate scandals, including several housing projects operated by convicted felon and former Obama fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko.

According to the documents, which we obtained from the Illinois Secretary of State, Valerie Jarrett served as a board member for several organizations that provided funding and support for Chicago housing projects operated by real estate developers and Obama financial backers Antoin "Tony" Rezko and Allison Davis. (You may recall that Davis is also Obama's former boss.)

Jarrett was a member of the Board of Directors for the Woodlawn Preservation and Investment Corporation along with several Davis and Rezko associates, as well as the Fund for Community Redevelopment and Revitalization, an organization that worked with Rezko and Davis. Jarrett wrote of her support for Davis/Rezko projects, and was also one of the strongest supporters in revitalizing two struggling Chicago banks which later provided loans and mortgages for the Davis/Rezko housing projects.

And what sort of housing projects were Davis and Rezko operating? According to press reports, housing projects operated by Davis and Rezko have been substandard and beset with code violations. The Chicago Sun Times reported that one Rezko-managed housing project was "riddled with problems -- including squalid living conditions…lack of heat, squatters and drug dealers." Davis, meanwhile, was nailed for a code violation when sewage began to seep through electrical outlets in one of his low income apartment buildings.

Of course, Jarrett would have no issues supporting these kinds of housing projects. As Chief Executive Officer of the Habitat Company, Jarrett managed a controversial housing project located in Obama's former state senate district called Grove Parc Plaza. According to the Boston Globe, the housing complex was considered "uninhabitable by unfixed problems, such as collapsed roofs and fire damage…In 2006, federal inspectors graded the condition of the complex an 11 on a 100-point scale - a score so bad the buildings now face demolition." It is no stretch to say that she was a slumlord. Jarrett refused to comment on the conditions of the complex.

Valerie Jarrett is a product of the corrupt Chicago political machine. Washington already has plenty of corruption; we don't need to import more of it from Chicago.
