Water softener issue-PINK water!

Why is our water pink? I hear a grinding noise by the water softener, installed by Titan Marketing of Lansing, MI, and then our COLD water runs pink for 10-15 minutes. I don't want to use Titan anymore, but we can't afford a new water softening right now. Is it something I can fix? Hubby thinks it's something to do with the iron filter/potassium permagenate.

@HeatherGrassLake,
Potassium permanganate will turn your water pink and you do not wan to drink, cook or bathe with it!!

There are better ways to reduce/remove iron and some don't involve toxic chemicals like Potassium permanganate.
