@firefly,
Yeah, I've always preferred CNN, though it has its problems too.

Yeah - what an idiot

Maybe, if he'd bare-faced lied to the world, had people kidnapped and tortured, murdered a million foreigners and taken humanity to the brink of WWIII - he might have got to keep his job...

Well, Olbermann may have stumbled over some problems, but MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, another liberal, is coming up pretty nicely with her new, own show.

On Tuesday night, for the first time, her show outrated Olbermann's, drawing 1.8 million viewers to his 1.6 million. It also outrated Larry King, which was broadcast at the same time on CNN, and got 1.7 million viewers.

I think this is good news, because:

a) it suggests that if there's problems with Olbermann, it might be because of, well, Olbermann, rather than his political leanings, and

b) it was mentioned (or linked in) earlier here just how much MSNBC is tied up with Olbermann as its lone ratings star; Maddow's success might untie the fortunes of the station, as well as of the project to base its reporting on a somewhat partisan stand as kind of counterweight to Fox, from Olbermann's personality. Which might make the attempt more robust and less dependent on the strengths and flaws of one particular person.

Olbermann haters, as well as Olbermann fans with a sense of humor, should love this parody:

@nimh,
If people want watch Rachel Maddow or Keith Olberman good for them and good for the two entertainers.

I think it would be a bit foolish to suggest that America needs a counterweight to Fox, but there's certainly no reason why it shouldn't have competition on cable.

Should Maddow eventually ascend to the lofty position of news anchor, from which Olberman fell, NBC will have again tarnished it's once bright reputation to try and make money off of a circus.

don't know anything else about olberman than this clip, i don't see the big deal, he's right, they used the big scare tactic under the guise of patriotism and somebody called them out

boo hoo

here's an idea, why not make your own decisions about how to feel about things and not worry about what some commentator or journalist has to say

my advice to people of every political inclination

go **** yourselves

and lighten up

and have a happy new year
