@OmSigDAVID,
Oh please. I don't believe I've ever discussed my political affiliation and I certainly wouldn't defend someone simply because they are a democrat. Don't be ridiculous.

All I said was that perhaps in this particular case they were unable to prove that the driver had been drinking.

U say that after accusing ME of being ridiculous ??

If the driver is RIGHT THERE, together with the police,
then how can thay POSSIBLY not be able to prove that he had been drinking,
unless he was really innocent ??
If it were true that thay coud not prove that people had been drinking,
then no one woud have ever been convicted and jailed for drunken driving.

They certainly didn't have breathalyzers and that sort of thing
to determine whether someone had been drinking.

The breathalyser was invented in 1954.
http://science.howstuffworks.com/breathalyzer1.htm

From Mystery Man 's link:
"The rumor about alcohol being involved by either party,
especially the truck driver, is incorrect," said Jerome O. Herlihy,
a Delaware Superior Court judge who was chief deputy attorney general
and worked with crash investigators in 1972.

"If it were some part of a cause of the accident,
there would have been a charge, simply because
if you're driving under the influence and kill someone
in the process -- whether it's the wife of a U.S. senator or anybody else --
there's going to be a charge," he said.

Herlihy said investigators discussed several possible causes for the crash,
including that Biden's first wife, Neilia, turned her head and didn't see the
oncoming truck as she exited the intersection of Limestone and Valley roads on Dec. 18, 1972.

It seems that Biden recklessly or knowingly defamed the innocent truckdriver.

U claim his jamming an "ALLEGEDLY" in there gets him off the hook.

If he did not claim that the involvement of alcohol
was significant, then Y did he bring up the subject AT ALL ????

He can 't have it both ways.

U seem to suggest
that a politician can claim anything about anything,
(no matter how false ??) so long as he jams the word "ALLEGEDLY"
in there somewhere, and then no one can hold him to account
for his deceptions. It only means that he is SLICK like a travelling snake oil salesman.

No sale.

First drunk driving arrest

On this day in 1897, a 25-year-old London taxi driver named George Smith
becomes the first person ever arrested for drunk driving

It is really pretty silly to say Biden is lying and that we should doubt his character based on something like this. The general concensus might have been that the driver was drinking but there wasn't any way to prove it.

If guys have been criminally prosecuted for drunken driving since 1897,
I think between then and 1972, thay figured out a way to PROVE it.

Perhaps this thread renews significance, as we now have Biden claiming he called Bush down in the White House. Karl Rove the latest to say it didn't happen and that Biden is a serial exaggerator, or a liar. If I am a judge of character, Rove is telling the truth and Biden is the liar.

Biden has always been a blowhard and politician extraordinaire, high on theatrics and weird statements, but short on substance and intelligence. I think thats why Obama picked the man, as a useful idiot.

Did the police say a sobriety test was run or not? Just because someone might not appeared drunk to the police at the scene of the accident does not mean they were not. The police would have to say something like that if there were no charges filed for PR reasons; don't mean it is true unless there is proof that a sobriety test was run and the truck driver passed it.

It is fairly clear that Biden is a compulsive liar.

Is there any evidence that the driver was never alleged to have been drinking? If the driver ever was accused of drinking, then Biden's statements are perfectly true.

@H2O MAN,
Remember when Joe claimed he was shot at in Iraq, grounding his helicopter? It was actually just the weather, no gunfire at all. I like the term, "verbal gaffes," which is a nice way of saying Joe habitually makes things up.

Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) " whose garrulous ways have led to a number of verbal gaffes over the years " has revised a dramatic comment that he was “shot at” in the Green Zone during a trip to Iraq. "

@okie,
Another note, if Biden had been a vp on the Republican ticket, the media would have had a never ending field day investigating and printing all the lies and corruption of the Biden family, but as it is, he is just a little windy, a great American that grew up in a blue collar family, blah blah blah, and he has all this foreign policy experience and knowledge, on and on. Again, another good illustration of a double standard for reporting. If plane loads of reporters had gone to investigate Biden instead of going to Wasilla, Alaska, then we might have had more balanced reporting on the candidates.

I think today is a secret liberal holiday.

They might be in mourning, H2OMan, after seeing the following:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/first100days/2009/04/13/obama-administration-upholds-terrorist-surveillance-secrecy-rules/

Obama Administration Maintains Bush Legal Argument for Terrorist Surveillance Secrecy

"President Obama's most liberal supporters say they are dismayed and disgusted because this administration is invoking the "state secrets" privilege -- just as former President George W. Bush did -- to shield eavesdropping programs from public exposure."

I think this is hilarious, as the libs spent 8 years predicting a police state under Bush, Bush was wiretapping them, taking away all their rights, Bush was a Nazi, Bush was a criminal, Bush was the worst president in history, meanwhile one ounce of reason could not, would not, soak into their heads that presidents just might need to exercise just a little prudence to protect the country. Now this about Obama, continuing the same policy. Not only that, Obama continues to kill people in Afghanistan, and utopia has yet to unfold magically for them to live happily ever after. And poverty continues, people are dying from diseases, the suffering continues, deficits are exploding, all under the Messiah, Mr. Obama. I thought all the problems were going to disappear? Talk nice, and Iran gives up on nuclear weapons, terrorists are converted into harmless lovable people, but none of this has happened. What went wrong?
