@ossobuco,
Sounds like a good investment...the more I look at those shelves, the more problems I think they mote solve.

@dlowan,
Says to self, what shelves...

but ok, thread shelves. And I admitted to liking them. Assuming they're the shelves I remember.

@ossobuco,
Oh, those shelves. Yeah, they look like just the thing. I didn't care for the invisible lucite ones. The stuff is clearer than glass when new. Soon they get the almost invisible little scratches and end up just looking dirty.

with out reading the entire thread ( someone may have said this already) but the most entertaining thing I can think of, and the most practical in design would be to make a shelf like system that has a few pieces closer to the ground that allow the cat to jump up. Then have a long shelf that goes along the height of the wall, wide enough for YOUR things to sit, but leave enough space for your kitty to walk on, hide behind or otherwise peek down at you from.

Using older looking books and different designs based on your taste, you can make little hidey holes for the cat too among your things.

I personally would never p ut up a kitty play ground. I agree.. they are ugly.. and if my cat wants to climb something he will..doesnt matter if it was made for him, or if it is made of human skin ( rubs sorely scratched legs)

@shewolfnm,
well.. I'll be damned.
Just above my post, if I would have read the stinking thread, is a photo of the idea I have.

Sheesh.. always a step too slow eh? Laughing

Here's a good example of design for cats:

@Robert Gentel,
That setup reminds me of the cat that poked around the bed awhile, and decided "It'll do. So, ah, where will you be sleeping?"

@roger,
It does seem more cat-centric than human-centric doesn't it?

@Robert Gentel,
Indeed. Some egos don't need further feeding.

I have to say the DESIGN is superlative........

But.....it's just nutso!!!!!!!!

Mind you, as I watch Miranda heading into her fifteenth year, and consider the inevitable, I am torn between loving having cats, and feeling that it is just mean to keep them indoors all the time, and hence wanting a stimulating environment for them, IF I decide I can do cats and apartment again.

This is way over the top, but there are some damned cool ideas.

The rafters thing is fantastic.......I love open rafters, and giving the cats access to such is simply inspired.

Of course, I'd have to have fake rafters put in, and my ceiling is too low for that.

But, wow. Thanks for that, Rob.....it's catnip for thought.

@dlowan,
I heard that any designer sofa is a pure joy for any cat to scratch into pieces -- if only it's expensive.
