@Seed,
You're not smarmy or annoying enough to ignore (and you're not an evil quote-nester).

@edgarblythe,
Life is to short to waste it on incompatibilities (to say it nicely), so hit
the button and that's that, edgar.

I have used the function too, only once so far, but I'll rotate my "Pappenheimer" as we say.

@Thomas,
I sometimes ignore on a temporary basis, with the expectation that the present behavior will change but that I don't want to watch it in the meantime, or that my irritation level will change - and I've taken people off of ignore after a timeout for them or me. I've two on a long vacation, perhaps very long.

On scrolling as an alternative, I've done that for years, and I read a2k a lot. Some of the benefits of only scrolling are that one can enjoy the counter arguments to the irritating person, which have their own learning benefits, or scroll past those too. I also get that we can all be irritating people in our own special ways.

So, I think of it as a useful tool, that at best can let me enjoy the rest of a thread.

@Seed,
Yes... I miss him often.

I was reading some of his original writing today as I sped through that "category" looking for something else.

@Rockhead,
I was just reading through some of Cav's posts yesterday. Came across a few by timber, also. What a great site, to allow us to get to know such as they, and such as the many good people still here.

@edgarblythe,
Hi Edgar,

I'll probably never use the ignore button or the voting feature.

My way (like it always has been in the past) to ignore someone is to never reply to them and scroll past their posts.

On the other hand, I have enabled the feature to ignore folks' signatures. I just find they distract from the posts.

@Reyn,
some days, the sigs are the only creative part of A2K...

@Intrepid,
Sometimes you find some verra interesting little clues in the sig lines. Gotta pay attention to them.

Well, the sigs in the old A2K were fine, but I'm finding that with this new version, the sig lines are much closer to the body of the post content.

I guess my attention span must be getting shorter if they distract me? Confused

I may never use the ignore..... Maybe.
But I have enjoyed thumbing down an individual's post to make it go away and to show what I think... without saying a word. Love it.

@edgarblythe,
When did you last try the ignore button? It didn't work in IE7 for several days, but it was working last time I checked.

Why is everyone so cagey about who they have on ignore? I'm thinking of adding my list to my sig line.

@DrewDad,
Most (not all) of the people I have on ignore are basically nice people - just too sappy for me - they make me want to throw hot sauce on them or something to pep 'em up. Better for me to ignore them.

@roger,
I am with Reyn, the signature lines got too close to the writing for me,
very confusing, so I used the feature to blend them out.

@Reyn,
nope, no need to ignore no body, no how.
if the site were only comprised of the postings of people i agreed with, i suspect it'd be a mighty dull place...

this is no longer an issue with IE7.
sig's are now small, greyed out and unintrusive --
