Is it case-sensitive? What if I want to find roger, e.g., and I don't remember that his name has a lowercase r?

@Cycloptichorn,
The old site didn't have good ways either, and the urls used the member id so you'd have to remember the number.

We had a memberlist for a while, but that was used a lot by spammers and we had to remove it, but that didn't work out too well either.

My idea now is to have the ability to save your friends in a list, and to search for them specifically but not be able to browse them all broadly. That way if someone actually knows people here they can find them, but they won't be able to hit up the whole list to spam.

But in case someone had something from the old site in mind (post search maybe?) I'm a bit confused as to what you are comparing it to.

This is a bug. I reported it to Craven and got this response:

Which I take to mean that when something gets tagged, then that particular tag might be unavaible for a short time.

@Robert Gentel,
Yeah, I always used to just run a search with their name, but I suppose that takes as many steps as the new way - I was just used to it.

The powerful search function on the old site was the BEST! I can't tell ya how much better it was then a lot of other message boards.

@DrewDad,
I am quite comfortable now. I miss the old site mainly because there are still a few I don't see as often as I did over there. I hope they get here soon and get comfy with it eventually. I miss em'.

Otherwise - perfectly content.

@Robert Gentel,
Btw, and this might explain a lot, I didn't know that you and CdKere were the same person - at all. I thought I was talking to a third party this entire time.

Thanks. I'll not worry about it for now. It is reassuring to know that I might not be a complete idiot though.

Bohne don't give up, I felt like you but am learning new things everyday and I feel we're going to be on a winner. I was lost at first but now can find every thread with ease, still don't understand the thumbs up and down and the ratings, however sofar it hasn't affected my postings. Don't fade out we'll miss you.

Frankly, this new site stinks. I can't even find most of the threads I've been active on, and I've lost all of my pictures on my travelogues that I've spent hours selecting and posting. Yeah, it stinks.

c.i. :
you know the saying that even OLD DOGS can learn new tricks , right ?

i'm one of those old dogs - don't know about you - GRIN !

but i'm also happy just sitting in the sun , savouring a nice dog biscuit and let the puppies play happily - just like the old dogs do .

so for the time being i'm just sitting in the sun enjoying a cup of tea and a nice biscuit and let the young pups do all the chasing around and yapping .

when things have settled down in a few months , i may show a little more interest in the new niceties of a2k ( the new and improved TIDE , phone service , banking facilities - oh , oh - i'm showing my age again) .

in the meantime i'll just read some posts , post some comments ... and leave it at that - no up/down etc .

btw you may find at least some of your traveloges on google .
(but probably not ! my "cruising arond cape horn" was on google until some time ago . i imagine that the re-organization of a2k probably does not provide links to old the old a2k . i'll look for some other old a2k links on google - there used to be plenty of them . imagine they may have gone into the trashcan )

let's enjoy a cup of tea and a nice biscuit - and let the puppies play .
take care !

@hamburger,
how come ?

i posted a comment re. afghanistan at 4 pm and it shows up under that heading , yet when i go to my posts , it does not yet show up .

it also does not show up under "all new posts - by day" - though a number of posts after 4 pm already do show up there ?

i'll check later to see if my post will make it to "my posts" and "all posts" .

no emergency , just curious .

my post shows right after this one : http://able2know.org/topic/120622-1#post-3350507

@MagicBlackCat,
I'm with you .... I used to love coming on this site to get help from Dutchy & all the other regulars with the Lovatts crosswords.
Now I can't find anything much at all, and when I do, it's in no particular date order & I am spending hours looking without success.
Soooooo very FRUSTRATING!!!!!!
I HATE THE NEW SITE!!!!!!

For people having trouble figuring out how to navigate the site, I made a slideshow that visually shows you the basics. You'll find it here:
