@ossobuco,
Oh Osso love, our Letty dear
Did not mean you can't be here
I think her meaning was to be
That threads we wish that we not see
Can simply be avoided where
The member simply goes not there
Don't vote it down to stay away
Just choose somewhere else to play

That leaves the problem ne'er the less
Of dozens of threads that make a mess
In our queue when we log in
Let's all give it more thought then

And maybe there's a better way
To express what we intend to say.

@Foxfyre,
Thanks, Fox, for pointing that out,
ironically I was taking it... personally.
There ya' go.

To me it seems the insistence on being hurt
is almost willful, when it has been said at length
and over and over again that
the function is not personal,
except to tailor one's closet.
To use the marker as a grudge system
is against the community aim,
though that will happen with the immature;
the mature community will vote for other reasons.
Even the hand on an individual post can be
to keep clouds of anger from rattling the voter's
own mental cage, possibly for a short time,
as one can always select the post back, when
reasoning reappears with calm. In that case,
the "collapse" would be done to not hurt someone.

Some people, including myself, can be disruptive of a
thread's flow. Or worse than disruptive. The choice to
tune out those post is useful when a reader wants to
follow key arguments.

@Foxfyre,
exactly, Fox, that's what I meant,
But often we are malcontent
And take offense where there is none.
How cold the wind that spurns the sun.
(damn, you are good, o fox of fyre.)

For the bear and devri.

Thank you both for what you say,
Each in your own special way,
And that's what makes us who we are
A grain of sand
A diamond star.

cj, my husband loved those earthy limericks.

No poet here, just wanted to say:
what a lovely thread.

Especially Foxfyre deserves a shout-out;
it's not often I see her, outside politics
and in such lovely rhyme and meter too,
and in such good spirit

Substantively, I agree
with both Fox and Osso
the points have often been made before
but rarely with such eloquence

Nothing in this poem rhymed
In fact, it was never much of one
But I got to say that your thread
begot a smile here in Budapest

@nimh,
Thank you friend Nimh. The only course I ever flat out failed was a college course entitled "Art Appreciation" involving mostly recognition of various kinds of medieval and Renaissance architecture which did not thrill me. So I wrote poetry to get my friend through her poetry class--yes, I know that was dishonest--while she took notes in Art Appr for both of us. I guess I wrote better poetry than she took notes. Never took that poetry class myself tho.

@Foxfyre,
Nimh, as foxfyre observed earlier, a poem doesn't have to rhyme to create imagery. I am delighted that Budapest smiled to day. Thank you.

It is as we see it,
A popular thing
To up or down threads
Simply based on its ring

I hope to ring true
And to add to this forum
A positive hue
And a bit of decorum

@the prince,
Yes -- WA2K on the air was a stroke of genius even if it did take me awhile to get involved.

The Prince and the Wizard,
We can't beat that combo.
Join us on the radio
And we'll all do the mambo.

Odd, the poem about the dangling modifier
Was inspired by a dumb grammar test on the net.
I got eight out of ten
And they called me a genius.

I don't think the world has to worry, however.

@ossobuco,
I beg your pardon, I replied on the wrong thread, by mistake. Interesting that it got an instant zero, with just a smile.

Whatever is going on, I wish you well, Letty.

@roger,
osso and Roger, it's true; the system does make me blue.
I never thumb down,
Thumbs up all around,
Contributions make our forum true

Though I don't see some apropos,
It's best just to say so.

A kind reprimand is the way we should stand,
It helps us to learn and to grow.
