Immigration "anti-amnesty" hardliners have largely shut up about McCain-- ever since his "flip-flop" on the McCain-Kennedy bill. For those who don't remember, the McCain Kennedy bill addressed immigration by offering border security along with a path to citizenship for people currently here.
The flip-flop: McCain has been distancing himself from his own bill, saying now that he wouldn't support it now.
But.... look at this from his website...

The program will also ensure that all undocumented aliens either leave or follow the path to legal residence. America cannot permit a permanent category of individuals that do not have recognized status - a permanent second class.
There we have it... the classic
fake flip-flop. He made his base think he flip-flopped, when really his "new" program is the same as his old program.
Conservatives will vote for amnesty this November. (Personally this is one of the few reasons I like McCain).
