US SEN TED STEVENS INDICTED ON 7 CRIMINAL COUNTS RELATED TO HIS HOLDING OF PUBLIC OFFICE - SOURCE

Naturally, there will be much, much more to come. But I can't remember the last time a sitting Senator was criminally indicted...

Thanks Republicans! Just another boost for Obama and the Dems this Fall.

Well, "Republican."

Can't hold the entire breed responsible for the actions of one criminal.

Out with the rubbish I say. Inept, corrupt politicians give the adept, corrupt politicians a bad name.

Good!

More of this needs to happen.

BTW, did he have any bribe money in his freezer?

The Clinton Impeachment was also a good move, but they left the rubbish in office.

Senator Indicted On Corruption Charges
Stevens Is Longest-Serving Republican Senator
WASHINGTON (CBS) ― Government sources tell CBS News Republican Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens has been indicted on seven charges related to a corruption probe.

A federal grand jury in Washington has handed up the indictment against Stevens -- which the Justice Department is set to announce very shortly.

Stevens faces seven counts of false statements involving VECO, the oil services company in Alaska, and the renovations done on his home.

Stevens has been the subject of a wide-ranging investigation -- and with this announcement -- Stevens becomes the highest level politician charged in the department's crackdown on alleged corruption, CBS News reports.

Steven's home was raided by the FBI last year with investigators taking a close look at renovations done on his Alaska home.

Stevens high profile attorney, Brendan Sullivan, has denied any wrongdoing by the senator.

Unless Stevens steps down, Democrats are virtually guaranteed to pick up this seat; and they likely will anyways, as the Dem challenger (Begich) was already polling 5+ points up over Stevens...

Why did it take so long to indict this long-time corrupt senator?

This is the same worthless SOB that championed the Ketchikan 'bridge to nowhere'.

He should have been booted long ago.

The big question is, will Ted step down voluntarily before the September 17th deadline, or not?

I don't know the answer, but you can bet both his arms will be twisted to do just that.

Depends on what his lawyers tell him, the strength of the case against him and pressure from party leadership.

Stevens declares his innocence and vows to remain in the Senate to prove it.

Thanks Ted!

Stevens must find some financial benefit to run for another 6 year term at age 84. He would be 90 by the time his term would end.

It's all about ego.

that's why we should have reasonable term limits.
