Will John McCain choose Mitt Romney as his VP ??
I would rather see Huckabee, but I'm OK with Romney.
What about you?
Yeah, I like Romney as a running mate for McCain. I think he should go for it.
Sorry to disappoint. There is not a chance that McCain will choose Romney (in spite of Romney's desire).
Romney has too many negatives.
First, Romney will come across as too conservative (the positions Romney ran on are far to the right of most Americans). McCain is making a play for the center, and Romney sends the exact wrong message to the voters McCain wants to target.
Second, one of McCain's weaknesses is that he has flip-flopped a bit too much. Romney amplifies this problem.
I would love to see Romney run.... but in spite of the horrible campaign that McCain is running so far, no one is that stupid.
That's what I'd tend to think... but McCain has already surprised me with stupid moves so far in the campaign. It seems like Romney is actually possible, and that would rock.
I am betting it will either be Crist or Pawlenty (and if I had to choose, I would bet Crist).
Crist's stock seems to have gone down. He did look like a major contender for a while, but things seemed to get a little goofy around when he announced his engagement. (The engagement has since been put on hold, or something -- I don't think it's been outright called off.)
The engagement stuff points up The Rumor (that Crist is gay) and I think he's just seen as too risky.
Pawlenty is sure being talked up, don't know if I believe it. He probably would make the most sense... but as I said above, I'm not sure that means he'll be chosen.
