Dean+Clark? Clark+Dean? Neither? Either? Both?

The other day, Clark told Bill Maher on HBO that this country was founded on "the idea that people could talk, reason, have dialogue, discuss the issuesÂ…We can't lose that in this country. We've got to get it back."
Perhaps Clark has learned that building alliances--and not risking showdowns-- is more crucial than ever in these perilous times? It would be good to hear from the general himself--whether he runs or not. Quote

I saw that interview, hard to get a serious one going on that show, but Bill keeps it entertaining. In light of Clark's 'gungho' attitude on the battle field, can we say he's really about engaging in dialog, or if he had been in Bush's shoes would he have been in favor of war also. Sounds sort of like he's saying what people want to hear since negotiating has been such a hot topic since the Iraq war began.

He also needs to look at the U.S. Constitution, he was quoted as saying, "America was founded the principal of progressive taxation". Maybe he read the Communist Manifesto instead, Communism, not America was founded on that principal. Progressive income tax was not permitted by the U.S. Constitution, the one he swore to defend as a soldier, it didn't happen til politicians talked American sheeple into approving an amendment to allow it.

The more I learn about him the less impressed I am, he needs to take a crash course in th history and formation of the country he hopes to lead. Rolling Eyes

I don't find Giulaini particularly appealing.

As I have mentioned previously, I have contributed a small amount to the Dean campaign. I think that the Dean candidacy would be a great thing for America.

I am going to read future polls very very carefully to see whether there is any information in those polls which gives a reading on a possible match between Bush and Dean or even between Bush and a Dean/Clark ticket.

If such feedback is available soon from respected polls, I would wager that President Bush would have at least a fifteen percent margin over Dean.

We shall see.

As I indicated, it's hard to conduct anything of substance on Maher's show, in addition to Bill not being able keep his lips off Clark's butt long enough to ask questions of substance.

The tax comment wasn't made during that interview, I don't remember where he said that.

It's not up yet, rab; they're a little slow with transcripts.

The site is here, for you to check the transcript later.

Did Clark completely side step a direct question to him about what he thinks of Dean? Implications of no Dean/Clark or Clark/Dean IMO. And of course he displays his 20/20 hindsight on the war. I respect him for his service and for seeking office, but does he really think you can go after terrorist without going through the states which harbor them? Did Afghanastan give anyone up? Guy's, his ideas and pandering are throwing up red flags.

Clark rules out vice presidential bid for now
'There's only one decision to make'
Friday, September 12, 2003 Posted: 11:12 AM EDT (1512 GMT
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Former NATO commander Wesley Clark said Friday he will make a decision "sometime pretty soon" about whether he'll seek the Democratic nomination for president.

He also ruled out -- for now -- any possible run as a vice presidential candidate.

"There's only one decision to make: Run for president or stay in private business," Clark said during an interview on CNN's American Morning.

"You have to really understand what the process is and what the variables are in the process that will make for an effective candidacy."

Clark was responding to reports that he and Democratic presidential hopeful Howard Dean, the liberal anti-war former Vermont governor, met in recent days to discuss the possibility of Clark as a running mate.

Asked what he thinks of Dean, Clark said he likes "all of the people who are running," admiring them for their stamina, organizational skills and courage. "I think the American people should be really proud of the political process we have," he said.

Several Democratic sources have said Clark -- the leader of NATO forces during the 1999 war in Kosovo and a former CNN military analyst -- has begun the process of putting together a campaign team, including talking to potential campaign managers, and could announce his candidacy next week during a trip to Iowa.

If Clark throws his hat in the ring, political analysts have said he could pose a formidable challenge to President Bush, who is seen as a president strong on national security issues.

"I've got ideas on national security and strategy," said Clark, pointing out that he's a "military person."

"I think it's pretty clear that they're very concerned.

Asked about how he would deal with Iraq and Osama bin Laden, Clark said he would focus his resources on going after terror networks and terrorists, not states.

"Because the nature of terrorism shifted in the late 1990s. So these international networks like Osama bin Laden's, they use states to some extent, but they're not a function of states.

"Sometimes they're using states without even getting any active support from the leadership itself, and if you go after the states, you end up with a problem then of taking care of the state that you've knocked off and it's an expensive and difficult proposition.

"And in the long run, it may be better for the United States to focus more directly on the terrorists, at least that's my hypothesis."

Clark would become the 10th Democrat in the race. He has said that his wife has reservations about a presidential campaign, but she will support him in whatever decision he makes.

there is the only republican ticket I would vote for right now: [don't worry it won't happen]

Colin Powell (sec. state) : Gordon Smith ( Oregon Senator )

Powell is the round peg in an administration of square and outdated holes. The general of global cooperation. ( I think he would have handled the Iraq situation totally different if he didn't have to answer to Bush/Rumsfeld/Ashcroft) Hey guys, cold war is over!

Smith, peaceful, religious without judgment, honest businessman, father, balanced ... statesman.

jugbo I lived in Salem with my father for a very short time in the 60's although it seemed like forever...we lived next door to the Hoffstetters, who owned Curly's Dairy. sherri Hoffstetter as I recall through the fog of years...her mom was a wild woman, I remember that, always had a drink in her hand.

Probably why she got along with my father. My father owned a big Piano and Organ distributing company. I remember Oregon fondly . My dad had a place at Nerwport Beach was it? there was something there called the devils punchbowl I remember that.

I got in trouble with a girl in Eugene that I met at church camp. Got caught nekkid and doing the ugly in a sleeping bag with her by her dad who commenced to kicking the **** out of me. this at the tender age of thirteen.

Ah yes....fond memories of Salem. Used to get picked up on a bus with a bunch of other kids and hauled out to pick strawberries all day. Got paid by the hallock and had a lot fun, copped a lot of feels.

Jugbo:

There was a GREAT article in "The Nation" about how Powell has become little more than a "House Servant" for Bush and the "War Machine".

I'll need to see if it's linkable

Powell has served Bush in all his lies and atrocities most willingly. Would not vote for him even if he recanted.
