Nope. I don't really agree with him on this issue.

It's possible that he knew it was going to fail, and didn't want to seem like a failure during an election year; but I think I still would have worked harder to stop it. I think that these candidates, like so many others, have somehow failed to understand that showing leadership WHILE you are campaigning, is rare and impressive. Obama would have gotten a lot of cred for taking a stand on this issue, a hard one, and I feel he could have used his rhetorical strengths to really convey the issue to a lot of the American public.

His team chose not to do so, and I am disappointed. Playing it safe (which is what this is) won't get you anywhere.

Well, here's my man Kucinich on the bill. http://www.disinfo.com/content/story.php?title=Dennis-Kucinich-on-New-FISA-Bill

But, then, he's never a serious contender for the presidency because he's a big geek. Ah, well, whatcha gonna do.

If Hillary had won the nomination, she would have voted for it as well, and Obama against it. Political opportunity and all.

see?

now let's apply that rational to obama's opposition to the authorization to use force vote; before he was a u.s. senator. he was in a no-lose position. his supporters in chicago were mostly in agreement with him. and he had no liability of repercussions from the general american population. nobody outside of illinois knew who he was. or what he said.

hillary, on the other hand did. the whole congress did. also, consider the mood of the country at the time.

this place was absolutely crazed with great histrionics of people trying to out-patriotic each other. a real motherlode for manufacturers of cheesy little american flags that you could clip to your car window.

simply being against the war was declared "giving aid and comfort to the enemy".

the dixie chicks got blasted because they simply said they did not like dubya.

now, obama sides with the other weaklings in congress and ratifies and blesses bush's illegal invasion of privacy.

now if clinton had voted for it, would there be all of the rationalizing for her that obama's getting?

i don't think so.
