Last post of the day. Comment superfluous. I remember this is the man who said my poetry did not scan. Well that may be right.

"Catch me if you can
Me name is Dan
Sure I'm your man"

I am sure most of this nonsense is complete gibberish to overseas readers; well, I can say without fear of contradiction that this gibberish is complete nonsense to us Brits too.

I have not been drinking, well not yet, but the night is still young.

Sweet dreams all.

There was no attempt to exclude any A2K member from outside the UK, but like Gautam says, the meets have always been triggered before by the arrival in the UK of a member from somewhere else, and we just thought that we didn't always need an excuse like that to have a good time!

Most of northern France, Belgium, Germany & Holland (and probably Denmark as well) is nearer to London than northern England or Scotland or Ireland, so there was no attempt to exclude anyone! Anyone who can come can come!

Where is that exactly Walter? I've heard you've got a lot of maps - any showing roughly where you are? And which regiments were they?

English regiments like the Black Watch and the King's Own Scottish Borderers, no doubt.

The Scots and the Gurkhas are the cutting edge of the British army (aka cannon fodder)

Quite exactly:
HERE!

Well, the 42th Regt Royal Artillery and the 22nd Signal Regiment were the last ones stationed here. (Left their barracks [now private and community houses, Music School, Adult's Evening School, local branch of Distant University, Red Cross, St. John's etc etc] in the early nineties.

Wasn't a very big garrison (just a prep school here, but mounted military police!).
This - 35 km's away - is still a big place (with a huge exercise areal nearby and Queen's Royal Hussars sationed there as well):
Paderborn Garrison

Black Watch's Pipes and Drums used to play at local fetes here quite often in my youth. This changed in the 60's/70's. Since then, The Royal Tank Regiment Cambrai Band is coming to my hometown every year for the local fair. [They were formerly stationed in this region, now in Fallingsbostel/Lower Saxony ... where The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards are stationed as well.]

McTag I didn't say your poetry doesn't scan. I just said (from memory) it doesn't scan. I never called it poetry. Very Happy

Ros calls my similar efforts doggerel, which I take to be a complement.

There was a young lady from Bude
Who went for a swim in the buff
She swam out to a log
But got lost in the mist
Which considerably changed her composure.
