McTag -- Could there be anything better than the National Trust? We stayed in National Trust of Scotland accommodations two years ago and loved them. Terrific idea and such a kindness for the people who live nearby as well as folks, like us, who are from faraway. Wonderful heritage that you have and your government (I guess it is the government) is willing to preserve, unlike some idiots around here. We have the National Parks which are spectacular, but so underfunded, and not really in the same vein.

O no it's not the government, although I daresay they get tax breaks, charitable status and so on.

They live on bequests and subscriptions, and rents, and are always short of money.

We had a great holiday in a Trust house near Braemar (near Balmoral where the Queen goes) in a property called Mar Lodge. Lovely countryside, lovely house.
And nary a WalMart in sight.

I never let the truth interfere with a good story, as you know. Wink

Anyway, I think it means quod vide, or "which, see" or in other words "have a look elsewhere (in this text?) for details".
Or in this case, not in this text but in another. By a Web search, maybe.

So that seems clear as mud.

Now, I'll go and look it up to see if I was right. If I am wrong, then I'll edit this post to make it seem I know what I'm talking about. If you see what I mean.

I am extracting myself from my duchy and venturing to our fair nation's capital to join you all next week! Who is coming?

Please be gentle with me - despite being 27, I've only been to London ONCE in my whole life, on a school trip when I was 11 - so you may have to tolerate a small amount of "How much?" when I find out that a pint of fizzy piss costs a fiver!

Shocked Really ????

Asked secy - she tells me that you can get very cheap tickets if

- You book well in advance
- Be flexible abt yr train timings
- Are willing to make a change rather than take a direct train.

She recons (and she is much more knowledgable abt trains - I have travelled intercity by train only once in (UK) life) that return ticket should cost you more that 25 quid.

Apex Return I think if you book early enough, travel on specific train. Shouldn't be any changes as York - London is on the mainline. I was in Glasgow last week for work and return was £61.50, but only booked on day of travel and opened-return. Like you say, if you are flexible, it is cheaper. Trains in this country are a load of crap though. The new Virgin ones are well-smart inside but aren't anymore punctual than the scruffy GNER ones! Bought some new clothes as well. Feel like a girl now with frivolous purchases but my wardrobe defo needed an upgrade from the old 'student gear' I normally wear!

How many folk have confirmed now?

Hey Dook if you wear clothes different from those you usually wear how will they recognise you?

Smile

That's the best joke I can manage today.

Hopefiuly they wont recognize me, as they wouldn't let me put them on if they did!

That's as good as I can manage as well. It's raining here in the better of the Rose counties and depressingly dark for 5pm...

Still 29° at 8 pm here, but (nearly) dark as well - one of the reasons, I'm staying here and not leaving Europe Laughing

(No, must go to an aunt's 90th birthday.)
