No help in paying for Iraqi War

Rumsfeld says it's not our job to reconstruct Iraq. He says Iraqis should pay for this themselves. He forgets, apparently, that Bush requested 13 billion dollars to help reconstruct Iraq's water and electrical systems. Powell told a group of lawmakers Tuesday that they couldn't expect large financial contributions from allies because they were suffering from "donors' fatigue." On Tuesday, Wolfowitz said the allies had so far "pledged" only 2 billion dollars.

So where is any help coming from? Obviously, we can no longer pretend we will get substantial help in troop or financial supplies. The myth of this being a war of liberation for grateful Iraqis is fading fast. Powell has laid it on the line about what not to expect.

Can we, as a country with an ever-increasing jobless rate, growing trade deficit, ballooning national deficit afford to keep this up?

They are working feverously on this problem right now in the west wing of the White House.

The solution that seems to have the best backing at the moment is a further cut in taxes for the rich.

Right now they are working on an explanation for why this would help.

Wasn't there a big "coalition of the willing"? What happened to them?

They've now become our "allies." Also unnamed.

What this translates to is - how will this war be paid for? If we get no help from coalition or allies, where does the money come from? If we get no help in the way of military personnel - who fights this war? Nervous Rumsfeld, who throws off all responsibility and blame to whoever is nearest, says it's up to the Iraqis. But a clear look at the Iraqis shows they're not all gung-ho about helping out the Americans. And the Americans are extremely reluctant about giving up any control. So where are we? Do we walk away?

Now that the fat is on the fire can we afford not to? Bush made our bed and now we have to lie in it

Bush and Co. make a profit (via their corporate connections) regardless of what happens to the nation.

When we put someone in jail
do we make them pay $40,000/year for their own prison costs?

When someone invades a country and takes control of their industry,
should they pay for their own occupation?

Seems like whatever investment or reconstruction money that
we can squeeze from other countries and Iraq itself,
would only go to enrich the properties that we control.

Politics seems to be about getting other people to do what you want
and having them pay for it too. Where can *I* get some of that?!

And I hope that the next president of the United States, Howard Dean, sees to it that no corporations can give any dirty money to the Bushes.

What about a "Nationalization of All Corporations"

That would do the trick!

When it comes to tax cuts for the rich, you can bet your life Frank that they'll come up with an explanation.

Well, and now it's been ruled that the victims of the ersian GulfWar are not entitled to reparation from the frozen Iraqi funds, because those funds will go towards the reconstruction of Iraq.
