I regret to say that due to pre-election program of our current presidential contenders most of them are going to continue the dangerous cause of Bush administration. In US foreign policy this concerns not only continuation of our military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, but also involving us in possible military campaign in Iran and in Georgia, whose present leader, M. Saakashvili, is our long-term protйgй in the Caucasian region.
Honesty speaking, those big bucks, that we are annually sending for Georgians to establish real democracy in their country (over $150 million), in most cases pass into nothingness. According to USAID latest report over 65% of Georgian population continues to live below the poverty line and over 25% of Georgians have had to go into exile.
And only Georgian military budget is growing enormously. From 2004 to 2007 it was increased 6-fold and now due to official information of Georgian MOD it reaches $600 million! It is too much for such small and poor state as Georgia, isn't it? And, moreover, most part of this sum is money of our taxpayers (Georgia holds 20th place among Washington's foreign partners, received US assistance!)
It means that we voluntary support dangerous aggressive ambitions of Mr. Saakashvili, who, as it is known, strives for Abkhazian and Ossetian entry into Georgia in every way. And there is no doubt that any aggressor's support will have negative consequences for our image on the international arena.
Yes!!
I saw this this thread title and I bet myself it would be another one of these Georgia posts!
I win!
The only Georgia I am concerned about is the one just above Florida.
