Biodome, starring Pauly Shore!
Say your neighborhood pool is offering something for adults, no kids.
Would you rather go with the intention of partying or watching a movie?
Good suggestions so far. I just haven't put my finger on movie or party atmosphere yet.
If movie, would you want it to be funny? (Cruise ship theme with passport checks at the gate, life preservers, floats in the pool with in water drink waiters, maybe a few casino tables off to one side like a cruise ship?)
Scary? (Jaws - inflatable sharks, rafts, bloody marys?)
Romantic? (Titanic, Summer of 42 etc - just float and watch the movie with whatever you brought to drink?)
If more of a party, would you want a movie or to see the 25' screen showing beach / surf / water related music videos such as Beach Boys, Elvis Blue Hawaii, Carolina Girls, Jimmy Buffet, etc?
In and out of the pool. Maybe Blue Hawaii would work. Hey, they might not even know who Elvis was.
Nah. Just brainstorming.
"Finding Nemo"
pool party ideas...

Fantasy Island - meet and greet etc..
Celebrity Party - old movies playing in background...
BigBand / Jazz /Blues
Salsa Med Party / Monte Carlo - dance movies ...
Of course, cruise liner would be good
casino / cabaret act (guests), titanic "bow" for the romancers / Irish jigs below decks and all that ....
How about old Frankie & Annette beach party movies like "Beach Blanket Bingo"? Or "Gidget Goes Hawiiaan", "Where the Boys Are". And of course Elvis. Depends on the age group tho. Would they be old enough to get a kick out of it or too young to get the joke and find those boring instead?
Someone mentioned concert movies, The Stones, etc. (how about "Tommy?") and that sounds good too, as a break from the beach theme.
Old TV shows might be fun too. Didn't someone mention "Fantasy Island"?

I'd be there for the party.
Videos/music. I don't want to have to pay attention to a movie while I'm trying to have fun with other people (a'course, most of that music is for old folks, old white folks)
A marathon of postwar Germany New Wave films:
Fassbinder's "Despair"
Herzog's "The Great Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner"
Wenders' "The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick"

Which we aint, right?
The difference is that here in the south we're all old white people when it comes to beach / shag music. But, we have a lot of northeastern transplants that feel as you do, so...
Meet the Fockers... Haha. A personal favorite, as is Spinal Tap which was mentioned earlier.
Maybe if I combine the whole music, movie, pool idea and show Rocky Horror?
Wasn't there a "Shag" movie?

or... if we must be tame and g rated.... Splash (Tom Hanks)
Ha - I had a think about Rocky Horror and looked it up - aaaaagh - all that makeup in the pool!!!!! Oh - that would be a bit of a horror a? Fantastic show tho and great music!
I think a movie would be a good "draw" - people would come for the movie but stay for the party.
I would chose a movie that most everyone has seen. Something that doesn't require a lot of concentration. Something that has a great soundtrack. Something that appeals to their sense of nostalgia - something from the 80s or early 90s.
Fast Times at Ridgemont High?
Rock and Roll High School?
Harold and Maude?
Why oh WHY do I keep thinking that the old B&W Midsummers Night Dream?
Oh! I like the old horror movie idea. Vincent Price and Christopher Lee for color but you'd have to throw in a little "Creature From the Black Lagoon" or "I Was a Teenage Werewolf". The black & white would be a hoot!
