needle exchange program ....what is it ?
I read wiki , google but still i am not clear about it .
I need very simple answers ....the articles are confusing me and misleading me.
so , here are some easy questions for whcih i want simple answers
(1)needle exchange program .............it seems needles are exchanged from the name ...right ? but is it a good practice ...i am afraid that this might spread disease ..is not it ? suppose an AIDS patients exchanged the needle which he was using for taking intravenous drugs with somebody else , then that guy might be infected ....is not it ?
so, is this program bad ?
i am confused in fact.
(2)how this needle exchange program occurs ? who are the takers and who are the givers ?
The exchange is used needles being exchanged for new, un-used ones.
The used needles are then destroyed.
I do not know about where you come from, but here in Australia, the government authorises various places...often health clinics and such-like places, to conduct them.
Those who use the program are usually illicit drug-users.
The programs exist to minimise the risk of the spread of blood-borne diseases.
ok
thanks for the reply.
It seems this is a good initiative.
